A lot happens before you sit down for your appointment. 🦷
The room is cleaned. Used materials are removed. Instruments are processed and sterilized. We reset and prepare everything for you.
You may never see most of that work happening.
But you should be able to feel the result.
A space that feels clean.
A team that is ready.
And the confidence that the details behind the scenes have been taken care of. ✨
Remember all those little “something is coming” hints?
This was it. 👀
Meet
We brought it into Design Dentistry because certain dental procedures can now be approached in a way that may feel easier and more comfortable for patients.
You won't see it in every Edmonton dental office.
We’re going to show you exactly what it does, who it can help and why we were excited enough to keep teasing it.
For now...
Mystery solved. 😉

You probably remember when you first got a crown or filling.
Then life moves on, and eventually it just becomes part of your mouth. 🦷
You stop thinking about it because it feels fine.
That is why WE still check it.
Not because old automatically means bad.
Sometimes the best thing we can tell you is:
"Everything still looks good. We’ll keep an eye on it." 😊
That is part of a good dental check-up too.
Knowing what needs attention and what does not.
Have questions? Ask us; we are just an 'appointment' away 😎

Long-weekend Monday priorities:
Coffee. ☕
Taking it easy. 😌
Making sure Leo knows about Invisalign. 😂
Our office manager, Beth, has clearly chosen number three.
Hey Leo 👋
If Invisalign has ever crossed your mind, we can show you a preview of what your smile could look like before you decide.
And good news, the invitation isn’t just for Leo. 😉

Back-to-school season has a way of making parents suddenly realize just how much their kids changed over the summer.
The shoes are too small.
The sleeves are too short.
Their face looks different in this year’s school photo.
And apparently, there is now a giant new tooth in the back of their mouth that nobody remembers approving. 😂
The years when baby teeth and adult teeth overlap can look a little strange.
A permanent molar can arrive behind the baby teeth without replacing one first.
New adult teeth can look more yellow when they are sitting beside much whiter baby teeth.
And teeth coming in can sometimes look crowded or awkward while the jaw is still growing.
Some changes are completely normal parts of growing up. Others are worth keeping an eye on.
The useful part is that you do not have to know which is which before asking us.
So if you catch yourself staring into your child’s mouth during bedtime brushing, thinking, “Was that there yesterday?”...
You don’t have to diagnose it from the bathroom mirror. 😄
Here is to another school year, another growth spurt, and apparently another set of shoes by October. 🩵

Retinol at 9. Floss still “starting Monday.”
The skincare generation is very good at caring about skin.
We know acids.
We know peptides.
We know retinol versus retinal.
Some of us have products with instructions that require a chemistry degree. 😂
Meanwhile...
Statistics Canada found that 90% of Canadians aged 20 to 39 showed bleeding at at least one tooth during probing.
That does not mean 90% of young adults have gum disease.
But repeated bleeding is not something to keep casually writing off either.
And one of the more common assumptions is:
It bleeds when I floss, so flossing must be making it worse.
Not necessarily.
Sometimes those areas need better cleaning. Sometimes technique needs adjusting. Sometimes it is worth having someone actually look.
So yes, keep the serum.
Keep the SPF.
Keep whatever that tiny refrigerated eye roller is doing.
Just maybe open the floss too. 😏
Your gums are skincare too. They’re just less photogenic.
If the sink keeps turning pink, Design Dentistry can take a look.
Okay, this clue requires your ears. 👂😂
Turn the volume up.
Listen carefully.
Exactly!!
There are some sounds nobody misses. And we mayyyy have a reason we’re thinking about that a lot lately. 👀
We’re not revealing anything yet, but here’s your next clue:
"Quieter."
Now we want to know. If you could permanently remove 'one dental sound' from existence, which one is going first? 😂
We have a feeling we know the answer.

“I’m not in pain, so I figured I was fine.”
We hear versions of that more often than you might think. 😎
And it makes sense. When nothing hurts, there is nothing demanding your attention.
The trouble is, pain tends to be late information. 😬
A check-up gives us a chance to look at what has changed since your last visit, see whether old dental work is still holding up, check your gums, and notice the small things before they have a chance to become bigger ones.
It doesn’t mean we are looking for problems for the sake of finding them.
Sometimes the best appointment is the one where everything looks boring. 🙂
So if life has pushed the dentist down the list for a while, you do not need to wait for something to hurt before coming back.
No judgment about how long it has been. We just start from where you are.

It's back to school season, so here is the one thing we would actually change about your kid's day. It isn't the sugar.
If you've ever packed what you thought was a decent lunch and still heard about a cavity at the next check up, this is probably why.
It isn't how much sugar is in the lunchbox. It's how many separate times the mouth is open for business.
Each time your kid eats or drinks something, the mouth turns acidic and stays acidic for roughly 20 to 40 minutes afterwards. Saliva neutralises it, but saliva is slow and it needs that full window to finish the job. While the mouth is acidic, enamel is very slightly dissolving. Watch the clock fill with red as you swipe through. That is a normal school day.
One snack, eaten and done, is one red window. That same snack picked at between three and four in the afternoon is a red window that never closes. The food was identical. The afternoon was not.
Which is why three proper eating times, recess, lunch and after school, are perfectly fine. Teeth are built for that. What they struggle with is the constant grazing in between, and the drink that gets nursed for an hour in the car.
The fix takes nothing away from your kid:
🕐 Snacks get a start and a finish, not an open-ended graze
🥤 Drinks get finished rather than slowly sipped
💧 Water after eating, the cheapest thing on this list
🍇 Sticky things like fruit snacks, granola bars and raisins are fine, just alongside a meal rather than on their own
🧀 Cheese, plain yogurt, nuts and crunchy veg help clear things up
You did nothing wrong here. It's a timing thing, and timing is invisible until someone draws it on a clock.
Save this Post!. And when you come in for the back-to-school checkup, ask us to walk through your kid's actual day with you.
There's usually one window worth moving, and moving one is enough to matter.
If getting your child into a dental chair is a battle at your house, this is worth seventeen seconds ⏱️

She is comfortable.
Dr. Khan is a bit of a wizard with kids 🪄 She gets down to their level, tells them exactly what is coming, and the fear just leaves the room.
We have stopped asking how she does it. Once a kid trusts her, the dentistry is the easy part.
Her only complaint was that it ended too soon.
So here is the offer. Bring us your toughest customer, the one who cries in the parking lot.
Dr. Khan and our team will make them fall in love with dental visits.
