One of the biggest questions Dr. Stacey gets about bone broth fasting is: “Won’t I be starving?”

For her, having bone broth throughout the day can feel very different from a water-only fast. Because you’re consuming some calories and nutrients, it may feel more satisfying and easier to stick with.

And if fasting leaves you feeling hungry in the evening, Dr. Stacey discusses another option: a small, protein-rich snack such as nuts and seeds, nut butter, chicken breast, or a protein smoothie.

So where does bone broth fit with intermittent fasting? 👀

Dr. Stacey explains how bone broth can be incorporated into a timed fasting approach - for example, using your usual eating window as your bone broth window while fasting outside of it.

As always, fasting isn’t appropriate for everyone. Your health history, medications, nutritional needs, and individual goals should be considered before changing your eating pattern.

Part 2: how Dr. Stacey actually does her bone broth fast. 🥣

There are plenty of ways to enjoy bone broth. You can keep it simple like Dr. Stacey does, or add lemon, lime, or your favourite spices to make it your own!

Her simple combination:
🥣 Bone broth
🍋 Lemon juice
💧 Hot water

When she does a bone broth fast, Dr. Stacey has about 4–6 cups throughout the day rather than doing consecutive bone broth fasting days. She follows it with a day of regular meals before considering another bone broth fast.

If you’re curious about trying bone broth fasting, remember that fasting isn’t appropriate for everyone. Your individual health, medications, nutritional needs, and goals all matter when deciding whether it’s right for you.

Bone broth fasting can be a gentler way to explore intermittent fasting. Especially if traditional water fasting feels like too much. 🤍

In Part 1, Dr. Stacey breaks down why bone broth can be a useful option:

🥣 Nutrient-rich - bone broth provides nutrients and protein while you’re easing into a fasting routine.
💧 Supports hydration + electrolytes - it can help provide fluids and electrolytes during the day.
✨ Contains gelatin - gelatin provides amino acids that are involved in collagen production and may support connective tissues.

Bone broth is also commonly used as part of a nourishing approach to gut, joint, and skin health.

And this is just Part 1…

In Part 2, Dr. Stacey will show you how to make bone broth and when she recommends having it during a fast. 👀

10 years in practice changes the way you see health. 🩺

After thousands of patients, countless lab results, different treatment approaches, and years of watching patterns repeat, we’ve learned that there is rarely a single answer when it comes to feeling your best.

Sometimes the most important information is in the symptom you’ve been told to “just live with.” Sometimes it’s in the details of your history, a pattern in your labs, or the connection between systems that aren’t usually looked at together.

And sometimes, it’s about taking a step back and asking a better question: why is this happening in the first place?

These are 10 lessons that continue to shape how we approach care at SMRT Health. 🤍

Which one resonated with you most?

Cravings aren’t always about willpower. They can be your body’s way of communicating that something needs attention. 💭

Before you try to fight the craving, try asking: “What might be driving this?”

Here are 3 clues Dr. Stacey wants you to consider:

1️⃣ YOU MAY NOT BE EATING ENOUGH
If you’re under-eating throughout the day, intense evening hunger may simply be your body trying to make up for what it missed earlier.

2️⃣ LOOK AT LAST NIGHT’S SLEEP
Poor sleep can influence appetite, energy regulation, food reward, and cravings - making highly palatable foods especially tempting when you’re exhausted.

3️⃣ SOMETIMES YOU’RE CRAVING RELIEF
For some people, food becomes associated with the end-of-day reward: stress → food → relief. Understanding that pattern can be the first step toward changing it.

Cravings are information, not a character flaw!!

Save this post for the next time a craving hits, and ask yourself what might actually be behind it.

Headaches can have more than one contributing factor, and for some people, irritated or sensitized nerves may play a role.

Perineural Injection Therapy (PIT) is a minimally invasive treatment that uses small injections near superficial nerves. The goal is to address irritation around these nerves and potentially help reduce pain signaling.

At SMRT Health, PIT may be considered for certain types of headaches, as well as other persistent or nerve-related pain concerns. Treatment is individualized based on your symptoms, history, and assessment. 💭

If headaches keep coming back, it may be worth exploring what could be contributing to them - rather than simply continuing to manage the symptoms. ✨
