"Families shouldn't have to make feeding decisions based on what support is or isn't available." 👩🍼
That belief is what drives Erie Melnychuk, lactation and infant feeding specialist at the Grey Nuns and Misericordia hospitals.
Along with teaching nurses at the bedside, she runs free prenatal breastfeeding classes at both sites.
Classes cover the first hour and first week after birth, keeping up your milk supply and breast health, with time at the end for questions.
First-time parents and parents who've done this before are both welcome.

On National Seniors Day, we're sharing a look at the geriatrics clinic at the Stelmach Community Health Centre.
The clinic's team works with older adults who have complex health needs.
"I always say it's like putting pieces of a puzzle together because everybody's situation is a bit different," says Jean Blank, a geriatric assessment nurse with the clinic. 🧩
The team sends recommendations to the patient's doctor and connects families with community supports, with the aim of helping people stay independent at home for as long as possible.
Older adults can be referred to the clinic by their family doctor, a specialist or an emergency department physician.

Every child matters 🧡
Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We remember the children who never came home from residential schools and honour the survivors, families and communities who carry that history with them.
Yesterday, staff and friends gathered at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital to mark the day together.
Reconciliation doesn't end on September 30.
It continues in how we care for Indigenous patients and residents, and in how we work with Indigenous colleagues long after today.
