Last night, we hosted the first session of our In This House Impact Series and welcomed friends and family of staff for an evening of conversation, learning, and connection.

These sessions are designed to introduce people to the mission of Compassion House Foundation, share the impact of a home away from home for women travelling to Edmonton for cancer treatment, and offer a closer look at the work that happens within these walls every day.

Some of the most important work at Sorrentino's Compassion House happens behind the scenes.

In 2025, we ran 1,456 dishwasher cycles, preparing for the next meal, coffee break, or late-night snack. It's one of the many small but important tasks that help keep Compassion House welcoming, comfortable, and ready for the women who stay here.

On September 12, 2002, Sorrentino’s Compassion House opened its doors with a simple but powerful purpose: to provide a home away from home for women travelling to Edmonton for cancer treatment.

Since then, more than 2,400 women from over 320 communities have stayed with us, finding comfort and support through more than 47,700 nights of care. We are deeply grateful to every donor, volunteer, staff member, partner, and supporter who has helped bring this mission to life. Because of you, thousands of women have found comfort, connection, and moments of light throughout their cancer journey.

It's hard to choose a favourite spot in the House, but we always find ourselves drawn to this sunny corner. It's the kind of place that invites you to slow down, settle in, and take a breath.

September is Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month.

Since opening our doors in 2002, Sorrentino's Compassion House has welcomed 164 women facing ovarian, cervical, and vaginal cancers. Behind that number are 164 unique journeys. While no two experiences are the same, each woman deserves access to the care and support she needs, regardless of where she calls home.

We honour those affected by gynecologic cancers and help shine a light on the importance of awareness, early detection, and support.
