I am a First Nations Designer, Mother and Wife. I have been a designer for over 10 years. I have completed Fashion Design & Apparel Production in 2005 and have continued to provide fashion shows /personal development workshops & constant orders since then. I work under my label “Acahkos Designs.” Everything I design is handmade by myself - every pattern, every stitch, every bead. I offer a wide variety of styles such as contemporary, traditional, custom and couture fashion. Acahkos Designs is always innovating and evolving.

I was asked to dress Paulina Alexis (Reservation Dogs) for her premiere ‘Anna Pigeon’ in Hollywood! I wasnt sure what I was going to design as I was asked the weekend before. I spent one whole day drafting a design that did not work..sigh. Tried again in the morning and nope..it was not going to work with my new blankets. Then I remembered that I just designed brand new gowns in June for a Fashion Show that I had done at Grant MacEwan here in Edmonton (will share pictures soon!) So I whipped up a belt using my mom’s incomplete beadwork..so there I was beading away for two days!
I wanted to showcase my mom’s beadwork because she tried to help me when I showcased in Toronto during Indigenous Fashion Arts. I was being a diva that time because she didn’t finish..but she tried. She’s getting older & I really appreciate all she tries to do for me & all that she gifts me knowing that I am a fashion designer..she is supportive..💜
So mom’s beadwork was on the red carpet in Hollywood! It’s a collaboration. I also managed to finish a pair of matching earrings.
So grateful. It’s been a really difficult summer so far..trying to take care of my family and navigate personal changes as well as fashion & orders. The beading and designing ground me..I just keep praying while I’m in my creative space. My daughter Acahkos also got to meet the family and they asked about her acting work. I told Acahkos one day I will be designing for her too..when she’s on the red carpet.
The new gown fit Paulina like a glove…she brought the pieces beautifully to life..♥️
