PTSD
Advocating for an audience of diverse individuals with PTSD, we aim to "Learn, Share, Advocate, Listen and Help”. I wept as I interviewed these women.
Blogger Dixon Christie employs memes, videos, theology, humour, music, sharing and peer talk therapy to promote healing. I started doing research on PTSD without knowing it. I am not a licensed practitioner, just a writer/filmmaker with a desire to increase awareness about PTSD, trauma, mental illness and the symptoms that harm so many of us.
- In 2009 I began directing a series called Battle Scars.
- One of my first projects was making a film about female survivors of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. In the conflict, between 250 and 500 thousand women were r***d as a weapon of war. This particular documentary has to date not been completed.
- I went on to video interview 300 Veterans and Serving Soldiers, always talking about the worst and most traumatic aspects of their service.
- I produced, wrote, edited and directed about 100 short and long documentaries about Canada's military in peace and war.
- As part of Season 4 of the series, I chose to focus on PTSD; The Invisible Enemy. I travelled Canada to interview 50 frontline workers and first responders including Veterans, Police, Firemen, Soldiers, Corrections Workers, Nurses and more.
- In preparation for the series I interviewed many of the frontline PTSD support groups across Canada.
- I was diagnosed in 2018 and as part of my own therapy started the PTSD Battle Group blog that you are on right now. My current goal is to build the blog, and follow life's path through to finishing my PTSD documentary. If you want to help, support or have any questions, feel free to drop me a line. At your service,
Dixon
