Sometimes, the most beautiful views are the ones you almost drive past.

We came to Kananaskis looking for autumn colours, winding roads, and those unforgettable Rocky Mountain views. And then, along the way, we stopped at Kananaskis Village Viewpoint…

For a moment, everything seemed to slow down.

The mountains stretched across the horizon, the trees were beginning to glow with the colours of fall, and the crisp mountain air made it easy to forget about everything else.

What I love about places like this is that you don’t always have to hike for hours to find something beautiful. Sometimes, you simply need to pull over, step outside, and look around.

📍 Kananaskis Village, Alberta
🍁 Fall is especially beautiful, with golden colours adding another layer to the mountain scenery.
🥾 An easy scenic stop for travellers who want to experience the beauty of Kananaskis without a strenuous hike.

So if you’re exploring Kananaskis, don’t be in too much of a hurry.

Take the scenic route. Make a stop. Look up.
Because sometimes, the view you remember most is the one you never planned to find. 🤍

🍂🏔️ Kananaskis Trail | Highway 40 — A Scenic Drive Through the Canadian Rockies

Some roads are more than just a way to get somewhere… they are the journey. 🚗✨

Kananaskis Trail (Highway 40) winds through the heart of Kananaskis Country, offering spectacular views of rugged Rocky Mountain peaks, evergreen forests, alpine meadows, lakes, and rivers along the way.

🍁 Fall is especially beautiful, when the landscape turns golden and the mountains create a stunning backdrop at almost every turn.

📍 Kananaskis Country, Alberta
🚗 About 1 hour west of Calgary, depending on your starting point
🏔️ Highway 40 connects many of Kananaskis’ popular recreation areas, trailheads, campgrounds, lakes, and viewpoints.

🎟️ Travel tip: A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required for vehicles parked in Kananaskis Country. Always check current road conditions and seasonal closures before your trip.

Take your time, pull over at designated viewpoints, and enjoy the journey. Sometimes the best part of a Rocky Mountain adventure is simply the road there. 🇨🇦❤️

🌉 Did you know this simple bridge is also a great spot to see Canmore’s famous Three Sisters? 🏔️

Crossing the Bow River, Canmore’s pedestrian bridge is part of the town’s scenic pathway network and offers more than just a peaceful walk. From the area around the bridge, you can also catch views of the Three Sisters, Canmore’s iconic trio of mountain peaks.

In autumn, the golden foliage adds another layer of beauty to the river and mountain scenery. 🍂✨

Three Sisters Viewpoint | Canmore, Alberta

Looking for that classic Three Sisters photo with the mountains reflected in the water? This viewpoint near Canmore is a beautiful—and relatively quick—stop for travelers exploring the Canadian Rockies.

The Three Sisters are Big Sister (Faith), Middle Sister (Charity), and Little Sister (Hope), rising dramatically above the Bow Valley.

📍 How to get there:
Park at the Canmore Off Leash Dog Area on Bow Valley Trail. Parking is limited, so arriving early is a good idea. From the parking area, carefully cross Bow Valley Trail, head underneath the railway/road underpass, and follow the path toward the viewpoint. The walk is roughly 5–10 minutes each way (about 300–450 m, depending on the route).

🥾 Accessibility: The walk is short and generally easy, but the final approach can include uneven rocks, dirt, and creek-bed terrain, so it is not fully wheelchair or mobility-aid accessible.

📸 Photo tip: Visit early morning or later in the day when the light is softer. When the creek/pond has calm water, you may get that beautiful mirror reflection of the Three Sisters—just like in my photo!

🌿 Good to know: This is a natural area rather than a developed tourist attraction, so please stay on the designated route and be mindful of the surrounding habitat.

Save this spot for your next Canmore road trip! 📍⛰️
