Last week, the Museum had the pleasure of welcoming a very special visitor — Kevin Neill, great-grandson of Museum founder Joseph Herbert Neill.
On behalf of the Neill family, Kevin generously donated the Neill Family Bible to the Huron County Archives. Originally belonging to Herbie’s father, Joseph, the Bible was passed down through generations of the Neill family before finding its new home in the Archives.
Kevin also shared photos from his personal collection showing him as a child visiting his great-grandfather at the Museum in 1964.
We are so grateful to Kevin and the Neill family for helping preserve this special connection to the Museum’s past!

It's opening day at the 2026 International Plowing Match taking place at Walkerton.
To celebrate, we take a look back to the 1946 match that was held at Port Albert. Happening one year after the end of the Second World War, the match was widely referred to as the Victory Match.

This month's collections highlight celebrates Huron County's successes at the 1926 International Plowing Match held in Niagara Falls.
The three trophies shared here were won by Gordon McGavin of Walton at the 1926 match. He won the Delco Light Trophy for Best Ploughed Land, and the Shredded Wheat Trophy for Annual Competition, presented by The Canadian Shredded Wheat Company. McGavin also won the under 26 first prize from the Ford Motor Company Special Fordson Class. The Ford trophy has a model of the Fordson and Oliver tractor which was driven by McGavin.
In the related photograph from the Museum’s archival collection, Gordon McGavin is pictured at the left, beside John James McGavin, and across from Jack F. Daly, who owned the Ford dealership in Seaforth. The photograph was taken at the 1926 match, and Gordon McGavin’s trophies are pictured on a table between the men.
And we're gearing up for another International Plowing Match hosted by Bruce County from Sept. 22-26. We hope to see you there!
