This day in history over the years; from Sharpe’s Creek to Thunder Bay - and a little statue to remind us all that “hard” is truly a mindset…

On this day in history I almost missed an entire show because I slept right through it - almost! Until the full northern moon came up over Lake Superiors hidden little gem of a beach the smells and sights captivated our hearts.
Northern nights are like no other if you close your eyes and take in the musky scents of cedar and warm rock, it’s just something I’d like to bottle.

September 13 over the years
Flipping back through lifes adventures - September 13 2019, I did a dummy and almost became the example I tell others not to be, a dummy at the lake. Great shots sometimes come at a cost, on this day it was my young child’s sanity, she absolutely thought the lake swallowed me whole while catching a wave shot from on top of the rocks in the alcoves.
A tree that captured my heart for decades and is sadly no longer with us for Mr hawk to perch on in the morning sun.
Muskoka - needs no explanation
Algonquin, Tally Ho, Torrence, and tiny hidden places in between!

Things you see along the way….its been a weird few weeks ….the seasons are changing, so are these beans, and the trees and skies.. birds are migrating alongside the dragonflies and monarchs..

PLEASE READ, IT COULD SAVE A LIFE!
I wonder if provincial parks on the Great Lakes should start having lifeguards.
I strongly feel this is getting out of control.
You can’t force 400 new people at your park a day to have turbulent water swim lessons. But people can also learn about water safety and the difference between turbulent waters and a pool because they ARE NOT the SAME.
People who go to beaches and are uncertain about your swim ability in a pool; you need to learn about buoyancy at different depths, attention to ever changing waters, undertow and rip currents - don’t swim anywhere near a river mouth if you can’t swim endurance swims in a pool - ever.
Keeping water between the belly button and the chest is one way to ensure a little more safety; your buoyancy changes when your at a certain depth, the sand slips from beneath your feet and that not so big waves becomes a threat, over and over.
Test this in a swimming pool:
You’ll find as you get chest deep you start to bob rather than have solid footing this is called- Archimedes' principle: the laws of physics used for buoys.
Now, imagine adding waves over your shoulders pushing your upper body,
and at the same time the water at the bottom pulling from sand from under your feet or forcing additional balance on a slippery rock bottom - it’s trouble for any weak swimmer and on occasion the seasoned one is caught off guard.
Please for the love of your families lives understand that the lake is fun but you need to respect her and be humble about your ability and understanding of moving water.
I could teach these things from 45 years of observing and respecting the water, and being taught very well these very things; while enjoying the craziest of conditions swimming as safely as possible.
If I’m tired today , I shouldn’t go to my hips for core control of the body.
This may be tricky for spine condition folks: you should also really take warning to these conditions, you tire really quickly.
Peace, love and Happy Sunday and please practice smart and safe swimming out there.

Things Aren’t Always as they Appear
This image - the real life version is a sight I’ve seen about a million and a half times.
It’s caught my eye every time, for many creative reasons and one philosophical one.
The staircase itself is very narrow if my arse was any wider it may not fit, and yet night after night this shadow spans across the building… perception and perspective is quite an interesting human trait.

Bay by Nightfall
I could sit at this spot for hours - infact I’ve likely logged thousands over a span of decades now, whether with a book or just to sit hidden away with my feet in the water - this is it. For some the Great Lakes are a vacation spot, a day at the beach, and for others is a part of their soul, I am the others.

Snug Harbour… something about the pull of light in the reflections of the evenings waters, just soothes my soul to no end
