Ruetz Country Market

So we got loaded up on a few things this morning. Firewood is full so hop on down to stay warm these cooler evenings of camping. We were able to score just a few baskets of those russet apples. I know there are a few of you that are always looking. You know those apples that look like potatoes really. We have Point Clark’s heart and home micorbakery sourdough bread and focaccia in today. We have some mini pies, cherry pies, squares, scones and more in. Today/ tomorrow will probably be the last day for Romas tomatoes so if need any please get them. We got about 80 more mums in this week, some are even in the greenhouse so come and take a look. Paul has got the sweet corn picked for today, more bins of pumpkins went out this morning as well. Romaine lettuce and more spinach and lettuce if needing a green fix. Perfect to go along with Feiges’s gourmet dressing. Open until 5. 82818 Bluewater Highway.

Sun was just thinking of getting up when the trailer was all loaded and ready for the Goderich Saturday Farmers Market today. Go say hi to Justin. I hear you can drive all around the square now. How exciting is that. He has lots of great produce onboard, bouquets of flowers. Last Romas today. Still sweet corn, beans, cucumbers, peppers, squash and so much more.

Slipped away for a couple of hours this evening to the beautiful Kingsbridge centre to listen/watch We Lend a Hand: The Forgotten Story of Ontario Farmerettes. It is a documentary film that tells the extraordinary story of 40,000 teenage girls who volunteered on Canadian farms and helped win the Second World War. Working on lots of farms in the Niagara, southern Ontario area, lots of market gardening farms and orchards. If you get a chance it is interesting to watch, only about an hour long but we were able to ask more in-depth questions afterwards. I think there is a showing of it in Walkerton next week to tie in with the International Plowing Match and another one in Listowel in a month times. Those are the closest I have seen. Anybody out there who knew a farmerette?

Fritter Friday. Come and get them. Some people already have so don’t miss out. We also have fresh breads, scones, muffins, squares, buns, fry pies are fully loaded, and more for baking. For those that have been patiently waiting we ( Paul ) made the trip to Mount Forest and we got a few cases of Zucchini relish, baby pickled corn, pepper/ peach chutney, wild blueberry jam, raspberry jam so the preserve section looks almost full now. Pop shoppe is back in the fridge for those that need a blast from the past. Lots of great produce from apples to zucchini and almost everything in between. Open until 5. See you later.

It is harder and harder to pick too late in the evenings. 8 o’clock is almost the latest as you can’t see what you are pick well enough. Need to keep enjoying these beautiful fall days. Paul was in one field tonight, finishing working on the pumpkins and gourds, Justin was in another field doing his thing and me in another field doing something else. Sometimes we work together and sometimes not.

Good afternoon. Yes the post is super late but at least we are making one. We got a fresh load of mistiglyn white and chocolate milk in this morning along with a couple of yogurts. Beverly Bauer baking if here and her famous spice cakes, apple fritter loaves, muffins, gluten free muffins and more. Stone Crock baking just arrived so sourdough bread, cheese sticks, cheese breads, marbel bread, pound cakes and more. Don’t forget those yummy mini cream pies, new today we got a couple pumpkin mini pies along with the coconut, chocolate, lemon and banana. Potatoe skins are back in the freezer. Paul picked up some more ice cream to go along with your dessert. And of course everything else you have come to love. Got to go, customers waiting. Open until 5.

Okay folks fresh sourdough bread and bagels are here. This is the only day those yummy bagels are coming in this week so come and get them. We have fresh muffins and scones, tarts, and a couple gluten free muffins as well. In the apple department we now have macs, galas and almost everyone’s favourite, honeycrisp. Pick up a basket for school lunches for a healthy snack. We still have a great amount of mums and fall decor. Lots of pumpkins and gourds. And of course fresh picked sweet corn and all the other produce you have come to love here. And we got another load of finger knitted pumpkins and fall monsters in this morning which we sold out of last week. Open until 5.

Gobble, gobble. Look what waddled in today. I had to put him together first thing I was so excited to see. We only have two sets so hurry in before they are gobbled up. 😉 Yes I know I went with a non traditional color of pumpkin but hey I like yellow. We also got a few fall trucks and lawn pumpkins. We open at 10.

Glad I picked this morning and early afternoon as would not have enjoyed picking in the rain later. Paul was heading to town so suggested us going out for supper. We have had a gift certificate hanging in our office since Christmas. Where did we eat? Thanks Justin and Taylor. Even did the dishes before we left so will come home to a clean kitchen.

I feel our kitchen looks like this most of the summer. Dishes, dishes and more dishes. Just finish making a double batch of our Million dollar relish and went back and made another double batch. We also finished up 30 jars of dill pickles. What else should we make before the cucumber season is over? Our million dollar relish is now our top selling preserve.
