Truss sections are being installed on the refurbished Agridome. Great to see the building beginning to take shape. We are thankful for the diligent work of our contractors and designers and look forward to seeing this important port asset begin to support trade in the Great Lakes.

Great to see the Saginaw turning in the inner harbour during her last few visits to the Port of Goderich.

These days, most vessels choose to either back in to the salt loading dock or turn around in the outer harbour just inside the break walls.

The decision on which type of approach is made considering a number of factors such as wind, available water depths, vessel handling characteristics and the captain's personal preferences.

USGS research vessel Sturgeon is working from the Port of Goderich while they conduct research on this side of Lake Huron. The US Geologic Survey has a fleet of vessels doing scientific research on each of the Great Lakes.

There are currently six ships on their way to the Port of Goderich.
Ship watchers may want to keep an eye out for the Algoma Innovator, Algoma Compass, Algoma Buffalo, Ontario Venture, Algoma Intrepid, and Harvest Spirit. We are excited to get into another busy fall season!

The Saginaw is back at the Port of Goderich! Now sailing with Algoma, she’s the oldest Canadian laker still in active service. It’s great to have a classic laker stop in as there are only a handful left operating. If you missed her this time you’ll likely get another chance soon.

Last night Frank Hurkmans and I had a wonderful opportunity to discuss and advocate for the Port of Goderich with Ontario's Minister of Energy and Mines, Stephen Lecce, and Ontario's Minister of Rural Affairs, Lisa Thompson.

The training ship Playfair is back at the port of Goderich. This youth led program does sail and leadership training for teens. They are making their way back to their home port of Hamilton but will stay in Goderich until the weather calms down.

It's great to have tall ships visit Goderich. From harbour's establishment two hundred years ago to our integration into the rail network, commerce and travel relied on ships not so different for this one, moving a few hundred tonnes of cargo at a time. Now we routinely move around 20 000 tonnes per vessel at the port, but seeing this tall ship reminds us of the important history and legacy of working sail on the great lakes.
