Heavy Lift Drones Aren't Replacing Helicopters—They're Filling the Gap
When people hear "heavy lift drone," they often imagine it's trying to replace helicopters.
It isn't.
The real opportunity is filling the thousands of jobs that sit between carrying equipment by hand and chartering an aircraft.
Across British Columbia, crews are working in forests, across rivers, on steep slopes, beside powerlines, at mine sites, and in remote infrastructure corridors. Getting equipment to those crews is often one of the biggest logistical challenges on the job.
Traditionally, the options have been straightforward:
• Carry it in by hand.
• Use an ATV or machine if access exists.
• Charter a helicopter.
• Wait until conditions or schedules allow.
Today, there's another option.
At In Flight Robotics, we've launched Precision Aerial Logistics—a heavy lift drone service designed specifically for industrial operations.
The technology is impressive, but what excites me most isn't the aircraft itself.
It's the problems it solves.
Imagine moving tools, survey equipment, cable, field supplies, or replacement parts directly to a work crew without sending someone down a dangerous slope, across a river, or waiting days for helicopter availability.
That isn't about replacing existing methods.
It's about giving project managers another tool to improve safety, reduce downtime, and keep work moving.
Heavy lift drones are particularly well suited to industries like:
Forestry
Mining & Aggregates
Utilities & Infrastructure
Construction
Emergency Response
They're battery powered, highly precise, require minimal ground disturbance, and can access locations that are difficult, expensive, or unsafe using conventional methods.
Like any new technology, they won't be the answer for every project.
But for the right application, they can deliver significant improvements in safety, efficiency, and environmental impact.
We're still in the early days of this capability in Canada, and that's an exciting place to be.
Every project teaches us something new. Every conversation uncovers another application we hadn't considered.
If you're responsible for moving equipment into challenging environments, I'd be interested to hear where you think heavy lift drones could make the biggest difference.
Sometimes innovation isn't about replacing what's already working.
It's about creating an option that didn't exist before
SAFER OPERATIONS.
Forestry work often takes crews into steep, remote and challenging terrain. Every unnecessary trip carrying heavy equipment increases fatigue and risk.
With Precision Aerial Logistics from In Flight Robotics, tree stock, fuel, tools and equipment can be delivered directly to where crews are working—reducing manual carrying and helping create a safer, more efficient operation.
Reduce manual carrying. Improve safety.

KEEP YOUR CREWS PLANTING.
Every minute your crew spends walking for supplies is time they aren't planting.

Before our first commercial heavy lift projects, we spent a lot of time testing, training and refining our operations with the DJI FlyCart 100. A big part of that happened locally at the Edison Motors' property.
Huge thanks to the Edison team for giving us the space to safely develop our workflows and capabilities.
Their latest YouTube video highlights a range of projects happening on the property (there's much more going on than just building electric trucks!), and we're honoured that In Flight Robotics gets a feature along the way.
Have a watch and check out our section from 12:01.
Thanks again, Edison Motors
