Two Rivers Church

This Sunday, instead of a regular liturgy at 4pm, we’re inviting people to meet at the front lawn of St. Andrew’s for a 2pm Prayer Walk around the neighbourhood.

We’ll divide off into different groups and pray for the neighbours, institutions, businesses, and needs of our downtown core. And then we’ll gather back at St. Andrew’s for a debrief, and an opportunity to join them at 3:30pm for the induction of their new minister.

Fall Living Rooms start up over the coming weeks. One of the offerings, led by Glen Soderholm and Dan Veldhuis, is entitled “Pray Without Ceasing”.

This Living Room aims to deepen participants’ discipleship by exploring and practicing different forms of prayer together. Participants will be introduced to these forms in each session, engage them in between meetings, and share their experiences at the following meeting.

There are six categories of prayer we would like to explore: prayer as the beloved, intercessory prayer, physical prayer, written prayers, visio divina, and Ignatian prayer. Keeping a prayer journal is expected.

“Pray Without Ceasing” will gather at the Soderholm home in Guelph for 6:30 PM to enjoy soups, stews, and bread provided by a group member. Gatherings are scheduled for Sept. 30, Oct. 14 & 28, Nov. 11 & 25, and Dec. 9.

Took some time to remember and retell the story of Two Rivers Church this afternoon. God has been faithful and good, and we can’t wait to see how the Spirit will move in the years to come.

Lovely to be back in the hall at St. Andrew’s for@our liturgy today, where we considered the welcome of Christ and its capacity to shape our welcome of one another.

Wonderful to see the children’s program back in action and to resume our familiar patterns of being together for worship.

Rev. Andrew is back from sabbatical, and shared some gratitudes and stories from his time of rest and renewal too. Lots to be thankful for.

The 2RC Leadership Team is pleased to introduce Cal Reynolds (he/him) as our new Children’s Ministry Leader.

Cal is a third year student at UofG, studying Theatre and French, and is also serving as Prayer & Spirituality Coordinator with the Ecumenical Campus Ministry.

Cal is from Burlington and brings with him previous experience from camp, church, and community theatre contexts.

Cal will give valuable leadership with our children’s ministry, and will be working to equip and coordinate 2RC volunteers in this shared work.

Big thanks to everyone who came by the Hyde House for last evening’s End of Summer BBQ/Potluck.

It was awesome to reconnect, to celebrate people’s good news, to feast together, and see the kids having fun in their church community.

Look forward to more opportunities to sit at table together over the coming months.

Lamenting the death of Sliman Mansour this week - Palestinian artist of Christian faith, whose work lifted up themes of resiliency, liberation, and human dignity.

For many of us, art is something we get to pursue as a hobby or leisure activity. It’s good to be reminded, however, that in other contexts art is a means of persevering and holding onto scant hope.

Maybe take some time this week to sit with the work of artists whose work bears witness to the power of divine love to withstand all forms of oppression. Hear what the Spirit might be saying to her people.
