School's back in session, and that means Fall Scene Study is back, too! New this year, we are happy to include students from grade 8 and up. If you've always wanted to act, but are nervous about getting started, Scene Study is the place for you.

You'll learn to break down a script like a pro, get coached through a monologue of your choice, and finish off by getting cast in a short scene from a contemporary play and performing for a (very friendly) audience. Register today at https://www.ctrlartdel.ca/workshops

NEW this fall! Ctrl-ART-Del is offering a recreational children’s theatre class with Skyline Dance Studio. Recommended for ages 7+, Recreational Theatre is the perfect place for young performers who love to act, move, and use their imagination. We’ll be playing games, learning improv exercises, exploring new ways to use our voices and bodies, and rehearsing scenes and monologues. No stage experience required.

Register at https://www.skylinedancestudio.ca/ - we can’t wait to see you on Monday evenings.

P.S. Our annual teen and adult scene study is on the horizon too! Stay tuned for more info coming soon.

Thank you to all who attended our staged reading of Paul Dunn's Outside this week. As Chris Hewson, Chair of Pride in the Highlands said in his poignant closing night speech, Outside should be a time capsule. It should be a period piece.

Tragically, it is not.

Outside is the story of tremendous bravery from a young man in the face of relentless homophobic abuse in a school that should have been safe for him. It is a story that hit close to home for many of our audience members of all ages, and to our actors, who are about the same age as the teenage characters they play. The hatred Daniel faces within Salisbury Collegiate is still there. This story is still happening.

But, as Daniel says at the end of the play, knowing you are not alone helps. There is power in numbers. In the face of cruelty, lack of perspective, and weaponized ignorance, know that you are not alone. There are people in Haliburton County, who see you, who care for you, and who want to see you become the person you were always meant to be.

On Sunday, please join us at StreetFest to celebrate q***r joy in all its forms. There will be artwork, live performances, a vendor fair, a floating Pride Parade, FOOD - Everyone is Welcome.

From the cast and crew of Outside, we send tremendous thanks to our production partner, Pride in the Highlands, our sponsor, Up River Trading Co, and our venue, Highland Hills United Church. Thank you for helping to make Haliburton County a more welcoming, affirming and loving community.

"Is it OK that I'm talking about this?
I don't want to upset anyone. Or maybe I do. We should be upset, I think. We should all maybe be a little more upset about this than we are."

A powerful and moving dress rehearsal has wrapped and we are officially opening TONIGHT and THURSDAY at 7pm at in collaboration with Pride Week!

This is a show not to be missed. It shines a lens on the very real lived experiences of teens coming of age in a society that is not always as tolerant as we would like to believe. It is an experience that was true for teens twenty years ago as well as today.

Tickets are available at the door or at tickets.ctrlartdel
