We were grateful for the media coverage this week, which helped shine a light on the challenges cottage owners are facing under the new STR bylaw that came into effect across Haliburton County on October 1, 2024.

Behind the scenes, we’re working hard to advocate for changes that are fair and workable for cottage owners, while still supporting the municipalities’ goals and ensuring short-term rentals are operated responsibly.

Even though we have had some rainfall over the last few days, Haliburton County is still under a TOTAL fire ban!

Attention cottage owners and visitors, please not that the municipality has implemented a complete Fire Ban!!!
No burning of any type!

Fire Ban!!

Effective at noon on Tuesday, Aug 5, 2025, there will be a total fire ban throughout the County of Haliburton, including the townships of Algonquin Highlands, Minden Hills, Highlands East and Dysart et al. This means no outdoor burning any time of day or night.

Bonfires, fireworks, torches and the lighting of charcoal barbecues, as well as any other light sources that use an open flame, are prohibited. Cooking fires are also prohibited. Violating the ban will result in fines. Propane and gas barbecues may continue to be used.

The ban is being implemented through a joint decision of the County’s four Chief Fire Officials due to ongoing hot and dry weather and is supported by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.
