A year ago, this was a program bringing entrepreneurship into high schools.

Now, students can earn a high school credit for it.

Beginning this school year, Tribe Network’s African Nova Scotian Youth Entrepreneurship & Innovation Program has been approved by the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development as a Personal Development half credit.

Over the last year, we worked with more than 80 African Nova Scotian students across four high schools, exploring entrepreneurship, financial literacy, ownership, skilled trades, emerging technologies like AI, and what it actually takes to turn an idea into something valuable.

What stood out most was how the conversations changed.

Students went from asking whether entrepreneurship was even an option for them to asking how much it costs to start, how to price an idea, whether they could build something while still in high school, and what it means to own what you create.
That’s the work.

Not just teaching entrepreneurship, but helping young people see more pathways available to them — and giving them the tools to start exploring those pathways earlier.

Cohort 2 of Tribe Innovation Hub: AI Stream is now open.

The Tribe Innovation Hub: AI Stream gives racialized founders in Nova Scotia 16 weeks to turn an AI-enabled venture into something stronger, tested, and closer to market.

That means getting out of the drafts and into the work:

✔️ Put it in front of real customers
✔️ Pressure-test the problem, market, and business model
✔️ Work through pricing, GTM, and traction
✔️ Set venture-specific milestones and get coaching to reach them
✔️ Build alongside founders who are moving just as seriously as you are
✔️ Get connected to experts, investors, partners, and next-step opportunities

You don't need to have everything figured out.

You do need to be ready to build.

The Tribe Innovation Hub AI Hackathon @ SMU is happening October 10.

We’re bringing students, builders, designers, founders, product thinkers and problem-solvers together at Saint Mary’s University for one full day of building.

At 10 AM, we reveal the challenges.
Your team chooses one.
Then the clock starts.

Spend the day using AI creatively to research the problem, explore ideas and turn your solution into something tangible.

That could be a prototype.
An AI workflow.
A product concept.
A user experience.
A demo.

Mentors across AI, technology, product and UX will be available throughout the day to help you work through questions and make the idea stronger.

Then you pitch what you built.

The strongest teams move on to the final round and compete for:

With support from Emera, the Tribe Start Small Grant has awarded more than 70 Black, Indigenous, and racialized entrepreneurs across Atlantic Canada microgrants of up to $1,000 to start, build, test, launch, and grow their businesses.

The impact speaks for itself. Emera’s $50,000 contribution has helped founders generate over $270,000 in revenue, launch new products and services, and take meaningful steps toward building sustainable businesses.

This partnership between Tribe and Emera has always been about more than funding. It's about creating the conditions for Atlantic Canada entrepreneurs to thrive through mentorship, community building, and fostering a region where founders can connect, collaborate, and build.
