As the season begins to wind down, your kitchen doesn’t have to. 🍳

For many small communities, the off-season means fewer visitors, fewer bookings, and a lot more unused kitchen hours.

Tourism Nova Scotia data shows just how sharp that seasonal shift can be: outside Halifax, accommodation occupancy was 74% in August 2025, but only 34% in January.

Your kitchen is already built, equipped, and costing money whether it’s busy or not.

Food Web helps you put those available hours to work by connecting your kitchen with food businesses looking for space.

It’s free to sign up.

Keep your kitchen working, even when the season slows down.

👉 List your kitchen at foodweb.network

Some pretty exciting news for Food Web! 🚀

We’re thrilled to share that Food Web Asset has been selected for the Growth Stream of Invest Nova Scotia’s 2026–2027 Accelerate program!

Through the program, Food Web will receive $30,000 in funding, along with dedicated sales training and guidance to help us continue growing what we’re building.

Our goal has always been bigger than simply renting kitchens. We’re working to make underused food infrastructure easier to find, access and put to work, starting with commercial kitchen space and building from there.

Having Invest Nova Scotia support that vision is an exciting step forward for our team.

A huge thank you to Invest Nova Scotia, and congratulations to the other companies selected for this cohort. We’re looking forward to what comes next. 🍳🌱

One booking turned into an ongoing partnership. 🍽️🤝

We’re excited to share that The Whale House and Pierogi Girls have created an ongoing kitchen rental partnership through the Food Web Kitchens platform!

This is exactly what Food Web is built for: connecting food businesses that need space with kitchens that have space available, then helping those connections grow into something lasting.

For Pierogi Girls, it means reliable access to the kitchen space they need to keep creating and growing.

For The Whale House, it means putting available kitchen capacity to work and generating additional revenue from existing infrastructure.

And for us? It’s pretty exciting to see a connection made through Food Web turn into an ongoing working relationship.

Here’s to many more. 🍳

We will have more info on this later, but I wanted to start getting the word out.

Food Web was awarded a $25,000 grant by Feed Nova Scotia for their Prototype Grant Stream. This stream of funding is intended to fund, research, develop, deploy, and execute on novel solutions to Food Security.

What we proposed: Establishing a pool of funds as "credits" on Food Web to fund underprivileged and financially constrained individuals.

The Context: One of the things Justin Andrews and Keegan Francis noticed when talking to early stage food entrepreneurs, was they were trying to solve the chicken and egg problem of having a product to sell at the market to make money to rent a kitchen. We're breaking that cycle and with the help of Non-Profits like RANS, we're able to establish a funding pool to help get more local food businesses off the ground.

The Solution for Kitchens: Forming an extra revenue line for cafes, restaurants, churches, community centers, fire halls, etc has never been closer. There is now a pool of funds waiting for YOU to engage with at Food Web. Head over to https://foodweb.network/signup and get yourself listed on our platform. In a time when restaurants/cafes are failing left/right/center, monetizing your unused kitchen time could be the saving grace.

The Solution For Renters: Applications for funding are now open! If you or someone you know is trying to get a food business off the ground, point them to us! We'll get them sorted and into a kitchen that meets their needs.

Most kitchen owners assume renting out their space is complicated. Permits, liability, finding the right people — it sounds like a lot.

The setup is actually pretty simple.
1️⃣ You sort the permits and insurance once.
2️⃣ You decide your own rules.
That's it on your end.

Food Web takes care of the rest — your listing, the renters, the bookings.

Mushrooms and humans both seek efficiencies. But they handle the gains completely differently.

When a mycelial network finds an efficiency, the resources get redistributed across the whole network. When a human finds one, the gain tends to concentrate with whoever found it.

Justin uses this as a lens for thinking about economic systems, food infrastructure, and what a genuinely collaborative network looks like. Episode 10 goes deep on it.

What do you think — can we build human systems that distribute the way mushrooms do?
