Inaugural Wooden Sky FPO Champ 🏆🌳🪨

When I first heard about a new permanent championship course being built in Hamilton, I was intrigued. Then I heard there was a tournament happening at The Rock before it officially opened to the public, and I knew I HAD to jump on it 😍

I’ve never considered myself much of a woods golfer, but if more courses were like The Rock, I might be a convert. 21 holes with long, technical open and wooded holes, elevation, island and peninsula greens, tricky landing zones, and some seriously tough pars. The birdies are there, but you have to earn them!

My game plan was simple: stay in the fairway, play smart, take my pars, and capitalize when the birdies came. I leaned heavily on my flippy Kastaplast Alva, Falk and Stig for those long hyzer flips and turnovers.

42 holes over two rounds was a GRIND, especially with constant waiting as so many players were seeing the course for the first time.

Round 1 was windy and I struggled early, finding some OB and missing some tough scrambles. Thunderstorms threatened, but thankfully we stayed dry! I settled down and finished with a 932-rated round to take a 3-stroke lead into Round 2, my biggest lead going into a final round in recent memory.

Round 2 was a serious test of patience and mental toughness. Long course, long tees, constant waiting, and the pressure of protecting a lead. At one point Colleen went on a HOT 4-birdie streak, but I stayed focused on my own game.

By hole 21, I knew I had some strokes to work with. I pulled off the tough in-bounds drive, gave myself a C2 birdie look, nearly canned it, and settled for the tap-in par for the WIN 🏆

Then came one of my favourite moments 😂

My cardmates were congratulating me and I looked at my scorecard and thought, “+11… honestly, it wasn’t THAT bad.”

“Kat…that’s your OVERALL score.”

I shot a +2 🤯😅

That +2 was a 978-rated round, a NEW CAREER BEST! 🔥 It also brought my tournament average to 955, another new event PB!

To pull this off on such a demanding course against some of the best competition in Canada makes this one extra special ❤️

My dreams of playing a tournament at LaFortune finally came true, thanks to the tireless efforts of Andrea Michaud and team, who pulled off an amazing event on such short notice 🤩👏

I'm so glad Anj finally got the beautiful tournament weather she deserved! 🌞 Maybe she manifested it with a name like Yeet in the Heat 😅 It definitely lived up to the name - gorgeous, sunny, and VERY hot 🥵 Anj took such great care of everyone, making sure the course was stocked with shade, water, electrolytes, and snacks all day 🙌💧

I set a new longs PB of even par in Round 1... then did it again in Round 2! 🤯 That was good enough for a 943-rated event and the win 🥳 My throwing and putting felt really solid all day, and I was especially proud to birdie holes 3 and 16 in both rounds while keeping things nice and clean.

My Kastaplast disc of the day was the Alva - it was my go-to for beautiful flip-ups through the woods and big bomber lines 💥🥏

I had such a great time with my card all day, playing with both old and new friends. I also don't get many chances to play with the FA1 division, and they were an absolute blast. I was so impressed with their talent!

And can we talk about these trophies?! They might be my favorite ever. The design and colours are so fun! Huge shout-out to Chris Kotyk for creating these beauties 😍

2nd Place - Winter Thaw 2026 🥈

A true tale of two rounds at White Spruce.

Round 1 was full of silly decisions, unfortunate rollaways, and missed putts from deep in C1 cost me a lot of strokes. I seemed to be allergic to pars 🙃

Half-runs instead of routine layups? ✅
Running uphill testers? ✅

Not exactly the game plan.

But I finished strong with my first ever birdie on hole 20 (from reds) 🐦 I flexed my trusty, beachy Vass to C1’s edge and cashed a big uphill putt to just sneak onto lead card for the final round 🫣

That putt gave me life - and it showed in Round 2. Way cleaner, more controlled, and it felt so good to get revenge on a few holes. Even with an anticlimactic bogey on the final hole, I shot a 942-rated +2 and locked in 2nd place 🥳

White Spruce has always had my number but I'm proving to myself tourney after tourney that if you play smart and stay cool, you can make it out alive relatively unscathed.

Congrats to Colleen for the W, who is practically the Queen of Spruce at this point 👑 We decided this year our tradition for FPO champs is to do a different group pose every tournament. I'm not sure what we were going for here, but it's still ICONIC ✨

Thanks to Spencer and the tourney crew for putting on another great event, and coming up with some fun temp holes (I might be biased as I away with the birdie on hole A both rounds 😁) 🙌
