In the lead up to this years Raid the Hammer, we'll be looking back on some of the race courses we've planned over the past quarter century.
Raid the Hammer debuted in the Fall of 2000, where 37 teams tackled the 25km course (that bears some similarity to the Traverse the Valley course from last weekend!).
We couldn't uncover many photos from this race, however we're happy to see off-trail footwear has improved immensely since then and that Golden Horseshoe Orienteering (before we became DGL) were adopting obstacles well before the OCR craze of the 2010s!

With Traverse the Valley running on Sunday, we are now looking ahead to Raid the Hammer on October 25. While you still have plenty of time to sign up before the Late Fees kick in (Oct 7), we'd like to share some big news.
This years race, which debuted all the way back in 2000, will be the FINAL Raid the Hammer. For full details on why this beloved race is leaving our fixture and what is going to replace it, stay tuned to our club newsletter coming out this weekend.
We will be reliving some highlights of this race over the coming month and in the meantime, why not sign up for this years race!

Feel that coolness in the air? That's the Fall race season heating up!
Our first race of the Fall is the second running of Traverse the Valley on September 27. This is our race to tempt trail runners to make the next step and try out a navigation based race.
This race has no off-trail navigation, instead uses the Dundas Valley official trail network where the main focus is choosing the most efficient route for YOU.
This years race ends at Morgan Firestone Arena (so you can guess where the final leg will take you!)

We're not gonna lie, one of the main reasons this years Raid the City start line was moved to Dundas is so we could use the awesome mural at as a race checkpoint!
has been a sponsor of this race from the beginning, donating a two pairs of shoes with only one caveat, it can't be to the winning team!
We are more than happy to oblige, awarding this prize to the best photo submission instead - which makes this race an absolute joy to the organisers, who laugh their way through the three hour race as they witness the unhinged photo submissions come in!

There are checkpoints on the course that are suitable for novice and expert mountain bikers. You choose which ones you want to visit. Riders will encounter some roots and rocks, open grassy areas and hills.
Mountain bike orienteering (MTBO) events are an exciting mix of biking and navigation. If you can read a trail map and you have some mountain biking experience, you're ready to give it a try!
