What if a single community space could inspire innovation, nurture entrepreneurs, develop leaders, celebrate culture, empower youth, and bring entire communities together?
Today, we are excited to share the stunning renderings of Phase II of the Liberian Learning Center (LLC): the Kúkátónón Community Center (KCC), a bold vision that promises to become one of the most innovative community developments in postwar Liberia.
But to truly appreciate what lies ahead, we must remember what has already been achieved.
In December 2024, the Liberian Learning Center officially opened in Paynesville, Liberia, in the presence of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, community leaders, volunteers, partners, and supporters. During the grand opening, President Boakai described the Center as:
“One of the most important developments in postwar Liberia.”
What began as a dream became a reality.
Built with compressed earth blocks, powered entirely by solar energy, and equipped with rainwater harvesting and passive energy systems, the Liberian Learning Center is now recognized as one of Liberia’s most environmentally sustainable modern educational facilities.
In just over one year:
- More than 20,000 community members have visited the Center - Participants have come from 76 communities
- The Center hosts digital literacy, ICT, entrepreneurship, leadership development, youth mentorship, research, and innovation programs
- It has been featured internationally in 150 Libraries You Need to Visit Before You Die by Léa Teuscher
Now we are ready for the next chapter.

Liberia, we need to talk... because the dream just got BIGGER!
When the President of Liberia, H.E. Joseph Nyuma Boakai, says:
“We all can agree that the Liberian Learning Center is one of the most important investments in Liberia.”..you don't just smile small-small. You get back to work and dream even bigger. 😄
Just few years ago, many people thought building one of Liberia's most innovative and environmentally sustainable learning centers was "book people business." Within one since opening, more than 20,000 community members from 36 communities have walked through its doors, and the Liberian Learning Center has become a symbol of what is possible when Liberians at home and abroad join forces with various partners like the Hamilton Public Library, McCallum Sather Architects, Paynesville City Corporation, Rotary Club of Monrovia, Rotary Club of Hamilton, Rotary International, McMaster University, etc..
Now, as we prepare to celebrate Liberia's 179th Independence Day, we're ready to unveil the next chapter.
On July 23, 2026, Empowerment Squared and Hamilton Public Library will officially unveil Phase II of the Liberian Learning Center.
And trust me... this one is not "small development."
- The architectural design
- The innovative features
- The official name
- The transformative vision
Everything will be revealed for the first time.
For generations, Liberians have been subjected to imagining a better future while sitting under palava huts, on front porches, at intellectual centers and at cookshops. Well, this time, we're not just imagining the future, we're building it.
What began as one young Liberian's dream has become an internationally recognized center for learning, entrepreneurship, leadership development, digital innovation, and community transformation.
And we're just getting started.

Together, we've already secured $1 million toward Phase II. Just $500,000 remains to fully equip Phase I and bring the next phase to life. Liberia's future is not waiting for us - “We are building it.”
