Swim cap trauma

100 men on motorcycles vs 10 girls on road bikes.

Today outside of Baysville on the Ironman Muskoka course, many riders were out practicing the course. All were courteous and following the rules of the road. No more than a metre from the right side of the road. Chatting, saying hi, and all looking forward to their race in a couple weeks.

All was well until a fleet of motorcyclists decided to scream slurs and cuss at our group of women, purposely leaving zero space as they passed at high speed, and caused a 4 girl crash across the right lane and into the shoulder.

Funny thing is, they took up the whole road as they yell at us to be single file (which is incorrect) Cyclists are allowed to be a metre from the right most side of the road. And you must give a metre of space to pass safely.

All people & bikes are okay. But that was too damn close.

The relationship between cyclists & motor vehicles is nuanced. But at the end of the day, cyclists are the ones who take the hit. Literally. And it can cost their life.

These are moms, sisters, daughters... All out trying to better themselves.

The irony about this is that the fleet of bikers was part of a charity ride for men’s prostate cancer…

We’re all lucky it’s just road rash and some scuffs. It could’ve been much worse.

Be safe & educate yourselves on road safety.
