One of the things I love most about traveling through Oaxaca is discovering neighborhoods like Jalatlaco—where colorful facades, cobblestone streets, and everyday life come together.

This painting was inspired by the architectural beauty and rich colors of this remarkable neighborhood. The bold geometric forms, layered shadows, and saturated palette reflect the energy and charm that make Jalatlaco such a special place.

More than a streetscape, this piece is about capturing a sense of place—a moment of warmth, culture, and connection.

And that’s a wrap… or is it?

For over 18+ months, I’ve been creating a new collection inspired by my love of Latin American urban architecture — and the response has been incredible.

Folks connected with the bold and vibrant colours, geometric shapes, and urban streetscape elements woven throughout the collection.

To close out the exhibition at , I held an Artist Talk. One of the guests in attendance was born and raised in Mexico City. During the talk, she shared with the group: “…I feel like I’m back in my neighbourhood of Coyoacán in Mexico City. These buildings you painted brings me back to when I was a young girl in Mexico City... They are beautiful…”

Heart full. ❤️

So… what’s next?

The collection is now available on my website, with additional new works being released June 1st — and ¡viva! color! collection is going on the road!

Tropicalia 🌴

📍Colonial Americano, , Mexico

Colonia Americana was awarded as the best neighborhood in 2022 + 2024, and its history dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. It is an emblematic neighborhood characterized by its Art Deco and modernist architecture - including some houses designed by the laureate architect Luis Barragán
and the majestic Parroquia El Expiatorio del Santísimo Sacramento, an impressive neo-Gothic church.

Tropicalia immediately caught my interest with the contrast of the neon pink, against the bright white facade with the cast of shadows from the mid day sun. The storefront was not opened at the time I took the photo as the owners were enjoying their afternoon "siesta" time. The siesta has deep cultural roots and serves an important purpose as to take a mid-day nap or break; to escape the hottest hours of the day and recharge for the afternoon.
