For Rian Joubert, coming back to TRU was an easy choice—just with a very different career path in mind.

"In 2018 I applied to TRU arts program for psychology and sociology. I originally applied because of the small classes sizes and the amount of other programs and clubs! I was a part of the volleyball club, indoor soccer club, attended McGill housing events (even though I lived off campus) and the SPCA meet and greet every Wednesday. I started doing electrical during COVID and fell in love with working in the trades. It was a no brainer for me to come back for school once I joined the trades."

More opportunities for trades training are coming to TRU. 🔨

Thanks to the BC Government’s investment, the institution is adding more than 800 new skilled-trades training seats in 2026–27, bringing the total number of trades-training seats available at TRU to nearly 2,400.

How much an animal moves, when it rests and how it responds to changing conditions can reveal much more than meets the eye. 🐇🐿️

TRU biologist Dr. Emily Studd uses wildlife tracking technology to uncover subtle changes in animal behaviour — and what they can tell us about the health of wildlife populations and ecosystems.

Her research in Interior BC and Canada’s North is exploring responses to heat, air quality, wildfire and changing habitat, building knowledge that could ultimately inform conservation and land-management decisions.

Thanks to generous donors TB Vets and local philanthropists Linda and Brian Turner, last week Thompson Rivers University respiratory therapy and nursing students were presented with health-care tools that will support their work for years to come and take away some financial strain right now.

From attending TRU Open House as future students to helping make the experience happen for the next generation — Abigail and Dami have come full circle!
