Productive day today! I think I’ve earned a b**r!
Ever wonder what a dozen split bamboo rods look like part way thru the build? 🎣
From 12’ culms of raw bamboo, this is what it looks like once flamed and split into butt and tip sections.
Next step is staggering the nodes, cutting each strip to length (like the ones on the right) and, the most tedious part; heating/flattening all the nodes, and rough straightening.
Living the rod building dream!
Awesome day for splitting “some” bamboo!😜

4 new rods in the making.
Always a bit of hesitation to cut 12’ bamboo culms, there’s no putting it back together, lol.
Filed down the nodes and got to work flaming! Probably one of my favourite steps in the rod making process. Love the smell of bamboo toasting and every step after this brings that raw culm closer to being another split bamboo rod.😎

Now that my back is on the mend, catching up on a few orders.
Another Dark Matter net heading off to a customer in Cape Breton.
This one is Birds Eye maple, Walnut and Toasted Curly Maple. He’s a tall guy, so he requested a little longer handle than I usually put on the Dark Matter nets.

I don’t know why, but even after all these years, this part of the build always freaks me out a bit. Definitely a measure twice (or three or four times) and cut once type scenarios. 😜
Feels good once you “rip the band-aid off” tho, because from here on, it starts to become a rod😎

Another great day on the water instructing an Introduction to Fly Fishing course with fellow Veterans and First Responders thru Landing Strong’s Community Connections program.
Always an honour and lots of fun introducing people to the pastime I love.

Decided to “hot rod customize” my cane.
Figure the New Scotland Fly Rods decal gained me 0.005 mph, and the Brook Trout (Liz Bateman art) one probably another 0.001 mph.
Maybe it’s the meds talking, but feeling kinda speedy, might do a flame job later.😜
