Thanks, United Way Waterloo Region Communities for another amazing March of 1,000 Umbrellas!
This year's theme was One movement. One message: Our community is stronger when we come together. And indeed, we are stronger together. It was powerful to see so many organizations marching together from Waterloo City Hall to Kitchener City Hall.
Thanks, United Way, for all you do to bring our incredible community together and make Waterloo Region a place where we all BELONG.

✨️Be the ONE!✨️
✅️The who gives a meal.
✅️The one who makes room to learn and connect.
✅️The one who shows students that they BELONG.
JUST ONE MEAL may not seem like much, but it can help all students imagine, explore, and connect... together!
We know that food does more than provide nourishment; it also provides a way for students to socialize and build relationships. Food at school says, "We all BELONG."
Just ONE donation of $25 provides ONE meal for ONE student for ONE month. This is the power of ONE. To make 10X the impact, consider becoming a monthly donor and feed ONE student for the whole school year!

JUST ONE MEAL may not seem like much, but it can help all students imagine, explore, and connect... together!
One new Canadian Grade 1 student said of a yogurt parfait topped with coconut, "It tastes like home."
We know that food holds the power to bring comfort--food can conjure memories, remind us of our culture, and give us opportunities to share. Food at school says, "We all BELONG."

One school coordinator explained, "Providing something to eat tells a student, you're seen, you're cared for... and helps us get to what's next like focusing on a game, lesson, or activity.”
And we agree! When students are nourished, they can focus — not just on lessons but on relationships, too. Food at school says, "We all BELONG."

JUST ONE MEAL may not seem like much, but it can help all students imagine, explore, and connect...together!
One Grade 9 student shared that when their school had a hot soup bar, "everyone was just enjoying soup and hot buns with apples and snacks, having a really good time and making friends. I go to soup day all the time now, for more than just a meal.”
Food is more than just a meal; it's a way to connect. Food at school says, "We all BELONG."

✨Be the ONE! ✨
✔️The ONE who gives a meal.
✔️ The ONE who makes room to learn and connect.
✔️ The ONE who shows students they BELONG!
It may be JUST ONE MEAL, but it could also be life-changing!
As one Grade 1 student put it, “Food tastes better when you eat it with friends.” And we agree! It’s just ONE reason Nutrition for Learning believes that food feeds a sense of belonging. Because being nourished at school means everyone can imagine, explore, and connect...together!
Just ONE donation of $25 can provide ONE meal for ONE student every school day for ONE month — this, my friends, is the power of ONE. Or 10X the impact by becoming a monthly donor and feed ONE student for the whole year.
As we kick off the 2026-2027 school year today, this is your call to Be the ONE!

Nutrition for Learning is BEYOND thrilled and unbelievably grateful to announce that we are the recipients of a Grow grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation! This 3-year grant in the amount of $596,700 will go directly to our revolutionary "Food for All" Pilot, officially launching in Fall 2026.
On June 18, we were joined by nearly 200 community members to celebrate the announcement during our first-ever Day of Belonging at Steckle Heritage Farm, supported by our amazing friends at AirBoss of America!
We'd like to sincerely thank Kitchener South-Hespeler MPP Jess Dixon for helping us share this incredible news, alongside our Waterloo Region District School Board and Waterloo Catholic District School Board partners represented by Superintendents Gerald Foran and Jay Fedosoff. The ongoing support of MPP Dixon, Gerald, Jay and the teams at WRDSB and WCDSB is a shining example of what true partnership looks like! We cannot wait to bring this pilot to life together.
Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, the team at Nutrition for Learning will be piloting a weekly “Food for All” service at 20 schools in Cambridge and Kitchener featuring fresh, colourful, Ontario produce-rich — creating opportunities for students to share meals together, build lifelong food skills, and strengthen their connection to local food systems, while supporting our local economy and provincial agriculture.
"School food is an investment in the future excellence of our communities, nourishing the next generation’s potential....This is a moment to think differently about what school food can be." -Erin Moraghan, CEO at N4L
