Stephanie Stretch
City of Kitchener Councillor, Ward 10
If you’ve been following along, you already know our family loves our backyard chickens. They each have their own personality, and yes… they definitely keep us entertained!
In today’s video, I’m introducing our flock:
🌩️ Storm
🖤 Oreo
🤎 Coco
🍂 Nutmeg
I also answer one of the questions I get asked most often: Are backyard chickens allowed in Kitchener?
The answer is yes! If you’re thinking about raising hens, here are a few of the basics:
🐔 Up to 4 hens are permitted.
🚫 No roosters.
🏡 Hens must have a secure coop and enclosed run.
📋 Registration with the City of Kitchener is required.
Backyard chickens are a great way to enjoy fresh eggs, learn more about sustainable living, and teach kids where their food comes from. They’ve certainly become a much-loved part of our family!

Vote in the comments with their name (or emoji!), and tell me why they’re your favourite! Bonus points if you’ve got backyard chickens too—I’d love to hear their names!
📲 If you know someone who’s been thinking about getting backyard hens, share this video with them!
Go check them out at Guelph Street Park,
Montgomery Park & Weber Park in Ward 10!

There are so many reasons I love knocking on doors in Ward 10. The conversations with neighbours about what matters most to them are always the highlight. Every chat helps me better understand our community and how I can serve it.
But let’s be honest… meeting your furry family members is a pretty close second. 🐶🥰
As we get closer to the municipal election this fall, you can expect plenty more door-knocking—and that also means plenty more dog (and cat!) photos. Woof!
Consider this your official Dogs (and Cats) of Ward 10 warning. 📸🐾 I make no promises about my ability to walk past a wagging tail without stopping to say hello.

Take back Thursday to last week. Where I attended a “We Belong” event, hosted by Kitchener Housing Inc., alongside my Regional Council colleagues, Colleen James Matt Rodrigues City of Kitchener Council colleagues, Bil Ioannidis and Mayor Berry Vrbanovic so many community members.
We had meaningful conversations about housing, homelessness, public safety, and how we can work together to close gaps and strengthen supports. These conversations remind us that building a community where everyone belongs takes partnership, compassion, and collaboration.
A heartfelt thank you to Kitchener Housing Inc. for hosting this important event, and to all of the volunteers, staff, and helping hands who made the day such a success.
