Hummingbird Centre for HOPE
We provide continuing bereavement support to men and women after the death of their spouse or partner. We are a peer based support centre.
Support and program initiatives will provide the the widowed person with the tools, knowledge, courage and strength needed to create a new sense of self for them, as they work to rebuild and maintain a new quality of life their family.

We often hear - Call me if you need anything? The problem is our brains go blank and we have no idea what to ask for.
If you truly want to help, call your friend and offer something that you can do for them - perhaps groceries, yard maintenance, drive their kids to events, deliver a coffee or dinner or chauffeur them to appointments.
There are so many practical things you can do to help - offer something specific

Why is asking for help so hard?
Is it because we aren't too sure what we need? Is it because our brains go blank when someone asks this question? Is it because we think we "should" be able to do everything on our own? Is it humbling to ask for help? Is it because the person we ask will say No?
These are all possible reasons - but shouldn't be reasons why we don't ask. We can all use a little help some days.
In our groups this month, lets talk about asking for help, creating a list for what we need help on, and practicing how to ask.
Here's one version...."Remember when you said to call if I ever needed anything? Well, I am calling now. Can you please help with (fill in the blank)

✨ SOCIAL WELLNESS TIP #4: SHOW APPRECIATION
One of the simplest ways to strengthen relationships is to express gratitude.
Send a note.
Write a text.
Tell someone:
"Thank you for checking in."
"Thank you for remembering."
"Thank you for staying."
Grief often highlights the people who continue to walk beside us.
This week, let someone know that their presence matters.
And if no one comes to mind right now, know that your presence at Hummingbird matters and we are grateful you are here and that we can help.

Amazing friendships can come from grief.
Finding your people that get you, understand your grief, sit in no judgement no matter how crazy your thoughts may be (in fact – sometimes they even support your crazy!)
Those who come running when you say help. Those who let you tell your story over and over and over again with no eye rolls. Those who don't need to say anything - they just get it!
Those are your Grief Buddies - the people who help you feel seen and heard.
These are my Grief Buddies - Beyond grateful for these amazing women who show up when I need them - no questions asked!
