For too many people in our community, the rising cost of living is changing everyday life.

It can mean choosing between groceries and rent. Losing sleep over bills. Carrying stress into work and family life.

This isn’t a crisis on the horizon. It’s happening right now, in our community.

That’s why United Way Waterloo Region is investing in local programs and services that help people meet urgent needs, build resilience, and create stronger communities for the long term.

Your donation helps keep these essential supports available when people in our community need them most.

When people are struggling to make ends meet, putting enough nutritious food on the table can become a daily challenge. Across Waterloo Region, United Way and our funded partners are helping people navigate the pressures of poverty and access the essentials they need.

Impact: Community Support Connections delivered more than 100,000 meals in 2025–2026, helping older adults & those with disabilities remain healthy, connected, and independent in their homes.

This is what collective impact looks like.

Connection Is Key: What Our Data Says About Belonging Data is essential for modern charities and non-profits. Nearly half of Canadians could cover basic expenses for only a month or less if they lost their income.

Here in Waterloo Region, that means families choosing between rent and groceries, and people putting off asking for help because they're already stretched thin.

This fall, your gift helps local organizations step in with food, counselling, and the support people need to find their footing.

Every dollar counts, and every dollar stays in our community.

Food and shelter are becoming increasingly difficult to afford, even for working people. Across our community, United Way Waterloo Region and our funded partners are helping people access the support they need.

Impact: Almost 3,000 people were diverted from homelessness or emergency shelter through Argus Residence's First Connect service in 2025, connecting them with the support they needed to find stable housing.

This is what collective impact looks like.

October 1st is National Seniors Day!

United Way Waterloo Region is committed to honouring the wisdom and lifelong contributions of seniors in our communities.

We support programs that help older adults stay connected, active, and included as they age.

Let's celebrate the generation that helped build the foundations we stand on today.

Yesterday, community members came together to participate in the Remember Me Walk in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The walk was a time to remember and honour the children who never returned home, survivors of residential schools, their families, and Indigenous communities who have been impacted by the residential school system.

It was a meaningful day to listen, learn, and reflect, while also recognizing that truth and reconciliation is an ongoing commitment that extends beyond September 30.

Thank you to The Healing of The Seven Generations for bringing the community together, and to everyone who participated in today’s walk!

Today, we pause.

On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the survivors of residential schools, remember the children who never came home, and stand with Indigenous peoples, families, and communities across Canada.

As a national charity rooted in local communities, United Way knows that reconciliation isn’t a single gesture; it’s an ongoing commitment to listening, unlearning, and taking action.

We are committed to strengthening our relationships with Indigenous communities and doing the work that real reconciliation requires.

Today, we remember. We act.

A recent survey from United Way Centraide Canada, in partnership with Leger, found that nearly half of Canadians have just one month of financial cushion.

A rent increase. A missed paycheque. A grocery bill that keeps climbing. It doesn’t take much to tip a household over the edge.

The cost of living shouldn’t cost you everything.

This fall, help a neighbour through a difficult moment and support local people facing rising costs. Donate today: give.unitedway.ca/donate/WCAMBR
