Churchill Community High School

On Friday, September 18th staff learned about the Woodland Cree culture at Grandmother's Bay Culture Camp. We learned about the history of Grandmother's Bay, fished, hiked, beaded, canoed and prepared a meal together. It was a fantastic day. Thank you to Mrs Sanderson for organizing our day, Cecil McLeod, Sally McLeod, Gerald McKenzie and Ms Waite for your expertise and Sam McKenzie for allowing us to use the camp.

Reminder, there is no school tomorrow (Friday, Sept 18th) due to a professional development day.

What a good few outings for our students the past two weeks. A few groups got to berry pick and others got to learn about medicine on a long walk. Thank you to Jay Cook-Studer for teaching our students on our medicine walks. Also a huge thank you to our Land, Language and Culture Coordinator Alicia for organizing these events.

This week, more than 40 of our students were seen by Dr. Degleman and his team by the Indigenous Mobile Eye Clinic (IMEC) at SMVS. All but 3 students required glasses or updated prescriptions, highlighting the importance of regular eye care!

Vision can affect learning, confidence, participation, and overall success at school, and living in a remote community can make it difficult to access these much-needed services. Seeing the level of need among our students reinforces the importance of bringing clinics like this closer to home, and we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for other opportunities in the future.

IMEC is still running until Friday and no appointment is required. If you or a family member could benefit from an eye exam, be sure to check out the poster for details. 👓

Congratulations Miranda for winning gold for the third year in a row at Districts. Miranda scored an 85! She will compete at Provincials in Humboldt next week. Rylee and Michael also competed and represented Churchill well. Great job to all three golfers ⛳️ 🫎
