Echo Food Rescue

These chickens are making the most of some watermelon we rescued last week. 🍉🐓

It came to us frozen and was headed for the landfill. It wasn’t food we could share with people, but it still had a use, and judging by this photo, the chickens agree!

This is one of the things I love most about food rescue. When food can’t go to someone’s table, we look for another way to put it to good use. Every bit we keep out of the landfill also means less food breaking down there and producing methane, a greenhouse gas.

Seeing these happy chickens eating watermelon instead of watching it go to waste makes my heart happy. ❤️

Watermelons are outside free for the taking! They have been frozen so only good for animal freed.

We received a load of watermelons that have been frozen, so they’re not suitable for people, but they’re great for animal feed! 🐄🐴🐐🐖

They’ll be outside after 2:30 p.m. today.

A HUGE thank you to the wonderful community member who surprised our volunteers with homemade pizza today!

As you can see, they were already halfway through it before anyone even thought to take a picture. 😂 It was clearly a hit!

Today was a BIG food rescue day. Our volunteers rescued and sorted a ton of food, and it was a lot of work. Having someone think of them and make sure they were fed along the way was such a kind and appreciated gesture.

We are so lucky to have a community that not only supports what we do, but also takes such good care of the people behind it. ❤️

ECHO Food Rescue has been named one of the Top 3 finalists for Non-Profit of the Year at the Lacombe & District Chamber of Commerce Business Awards Gala!

We are incredibly proud to be recognized alongside other organizations doing great work in our community.

What started as an idea to keep good food from going to waste has grown into something so much bigger. Every week, food that may otherwise have ended up in the landfill is rescued and shared back into our community, and none of it would be possible without our amazing volunteers, food partners, supporters, and everyone who walks through our doors.

Being named a finalist is a pretty special reminder of just how far ECHO Food Rescue has come. 💚
