✨New Artist Spotlight: Lawrence Kopp ✨

We’re so excited to welcome Lawrence Kopp to AAC Works!

Lawrence Kopp is a Lethbridge-based woodworker creating functional, artisanal cutting and charcuterie boards, along with a variety of other handcrafted goods. Working with a range of wood species, each piece celebrates the wood’s natural grain, contrast, character, and unique imperfections.

And the smaller pieces don’t go to waste! Pieces left over from larger projects are carefully transformed into beautiful pieces like wooden earrings and coasters. Every item is shaped, sanded, and finished by hand, allowing the natural beauty and character of the wood to shine through.

After years of creating utilitarian pieces like cabinets and tables, retirement has given Lawrence the opportunity to approach woodworking from a more creative perspective. He loves combining different species of wood and embracing the natural “imperfections” that make each piece completely one-of-a-kind. 🪵

We currently have an incredible collection of Lawrence’s work in the shop, including wooden utensils, earrings, coasters, bookmarks, and gorgeous charcuterie boards. 🥄🌳

Join us at AAC Works for a special Artist Demonstration with our Featured Artist, Leila Armstrong! ✨

Watch Leila bring her creative process to life as she experiments with gel printing, image transfers, stencils, layers, and textures to create one-of-a-kind prints. You never quite know what’s going to happen when you start pulling a print - and that’s half the fun! 👀🎨

✨ Let’s take a look at our 2026 Arts Days mural! ✨

Every September, AAC Works invites a local artist to transform our front window into a larger-than-life artwork - and this year we’re excited to feature Candace “Áísínai’pi” Gladue (Bullchild)! 🎨🖌

About the Artist

Candace “Áísínai’pi” Gladue (Bullchild) is a Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) artist, storyteller, and community advocate from Treaty 7 Territory Lethbridge, Alberta. Her work is rooted in the resurgence of Indigenous knowledge, language, and identity. Drawing from her lived experiences on Treaty 7 territory and the ancestral teachings of Niitsitapi people, she uses visual art, public speaking, and community engagement as acts of reclamation and resistance. Her practice weaves together traditional Blackfoot symbolism, contemporary issues, and grassroots activism to honour the stories of her ancestors and empower future generations.

September & October Featured Artist: ✨Leila Armstrong✨

We’re excited to feature Leila Armstrong, a Lethbridge-based artist working across a range of mediums, including printmaking, illustration, performance, collage and sculpture.

Leila recently completed her PhD in Evolution and Behaviour at the University of Lethbridge—as part of her PhD project she produced a body of work collectively titled Backyard Wilderness, which explores our relationship with urban wildlife and argues for coexistence. This project involved two solo exhibitions, a small project-space exhibition, six billboards, three vinyl wrapped electrical boxes, three residencies, and a booklet of cartoons.

Currently, our shop carries a variety of Leila’s print and collage works, in addition to wearable and functional items that feature her beloved wildlife illustrations. 🦝

Before the summer comes to an end, we wanted to take a moment to shine a spotlight on the incredible work of our July & August Featured Artist, ✨Shannyn Dowsett of !✨

Today we're highlighting Shannyn's stunning ceramic vases. Hold onto the warmth of the summer sun with these joyful yellow vases. Shannyn’s pieces bring a bit of whimsy to the everyday while still being functional. 💛
