🎓 We’re pleased to welcome Jeniffer Orajekwe as a new member of the Lethbridge Polytechnic Board of Governors.

Jeniffer is an international student from Nigeria, currently enrolled in our Practical Nurse program, and serves as president of the Lethbridge Polytechnic Students’ Association.

A strong advocate for her fellow students, Jeniffer is committed to ensuring student voices are heard and that students feel supported throughout their post-secondary journey. She also believes in the importance of transparency and accountability, values she looks forward to bringing to the Board table.

As a student representative, Jeniffer will provide an important student perspective as the Board works to strengthen the student experience and build connections with our community and industry partners.

Where Are You Wednesday! 📸

Meet David Guenther, a Communication Arts – Print Journalism 2006 graduate whose passion for storytelling has taken him from hobbyist photographer to directing large-scale commercials for major automotive brands across North America.

David originally wanted to be a writer and chose the program because of his love of storytelling. It was through his photojournalism classes, and being among the first students to work with digital cameras, that he discovered a new way to tell stories.

“I realized I could combine the visual arts with my desire to be able to tell a story and convey the way I saw the world,” he says.

After graduating, David moved to South Korea, where photography became his full-time profession. As social media grew, so did opportunities to work with travel and lifestyle brands, eventually leading him to the automotive industry.

Today, David travels internationally for commercial shoots, including directing campaigns in places ranging from downtown Los Angeles to the Arizona desert. He still draws on the journalism skills he developed at Lethbridge Polytechnic, approaching each project with an eye for storytelling, composition and understanding his audience.

Despite working around the world, David remains based in Lethbridge with his wife and kids.

“You don’t necessarily know what’s around the corner and you just trust that if you stay true to who you are as an artist and as a storyteller, the work will keep coming.”

From journalism to photography to commercial directing, the medium may have changed, but David’s focus has remained the same: tell the story.

A new path to becoming a paramedic is coming to Lethbridge Polytechnic!

Beginning in Fall 2027, students entering our Primary Care Paramedic program will benefit from a new two-year diploma, transitioning from the current one-year certificate program. The change aligns with new educational requirements established by the Alberta College of Paramedics and prepares graduates to meet evolving standards for entry into the profession.

Students will learn through a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on experience and 520 hours of work-integrated learning in hospital and ambulance service settings. They’ll train alongside experienced emergency service professionals while developing the skills and confidence needed to provide primary patient care.

Upon completion, graduates will be eligible to write the Canadian Organization of Paramedic Regulators exam to qualify for practice in Alberta and other jurisdictions across Canada. They can also choose to continue their education to become an advanced care paramedic.

🌱 We’re pleased to welcome John Kolk as a new member of the Lethbridge Polytechnic Board of Governors.

John is a well-known leader in southern Alberta agriculture, operating a dry-land and irrigated farm near Picture Butte. A strong proponent of sustainable agriculture, he believes in the importance of stewardship, both environmental and generational.

John brings valuable experience in research, knowledge sharing and industry partnerships. He is passionate about creating relevant, responsive learning experiences that prepare students for meaningful careers and is looking forward to bringing his perspective to the Board as a public member.

John is one of four new members joining the Board, bringing it to its full 16-member capacity.

Did you know we have a full-sized research farm?

For over 25 years, this 155-hectare (385 acre) farm just east of Lethbridge has served as a hub for researchers and students to find answers to farming’s biggest questions around irrigation, crop rotation and more.

Researchers work closely with local farmers, research groups like Results Driven Agriculture Research (RDAR) and other post-secondaries from across Canada to help farmers and producers make the most their land, crops and water resources as they work to feed Canada and the world.
