🔎 INVESTIGATION: Found puppies
The Community Animal Services team is hoping to find the rightful owners of two young puppies that are now in the care of the Lethbridge Animal Shelter.
Enforcement Officers collected the dogs from a member of the public who had found them roaming alone in the Garry Station neighborhood in the afternoon of Wednesday, October 7. No owners could be located in the area at the time, and no missing pet reports have been received. Neither dogs have any identification.
If you know where these two mix breed puppies belong, please contact our office.

What do you do if you find a lost dog?
When we see a pet without their owner, it’s our nature to want to help. However, there are ways to handle the situation safely and effectively. Here are a few tips to keep in mind in case you find a furry friend without their family!
• Never approach dogs that appear aggressive or fearful, and never chase a dog. If you see a loose dog creating a threat, report it to 403-320-4099(opt 1).
• If you have found a loose pet without an owner, check to see if it has ID like a tag. If the dog is wearing their City of Lethbridge license tag, you can call the Community Animal Services office with the tag number.
• It's not a good idea to take strange animals home. Lost pets are often not far from their home, and an owner may be out looking. Taking pets away from the area where they were found, significantly reduces the chance of them being quickly reunited with their family.
• If you do have a lost pet, start by checking with neighbors in the area, and make a post on local social media groups.
If you have secured a lost dog, and cannot locate an owner, you can call the animal services complaint line at 403-320-4099(opt 1). Enforcement Officers can collect the dog and work to locate the rightful owner.

Recently 8 small-breed dogs came into the Lethbridge Animal Shelter as part of a welfare case. Without hesitation, Windy City Canine Rescue and the Lethbridge and District Humane Society quickly stepped up and took on several of the dogs to be fostered and adopted.
All the dogs were assessed by a veterinarian, and thankfully no serious conditions were found outside of some neglected grooming. As a result of the investigation by our Enforcement Officers, the dog's owner has been charged with several offences under the City of Lethbridge Animal Care and Control Bylaw.
Thank you so much to our rescue partners for helping us achieve a positive outcome in this this case!
The public is always encouraged to report concerns and support local animal rescue organizations.

Today is World Rabies Day, a time to recognize and educate on this deadly, yet preventable disease. World Rabies Day has been commemorated every year on September 28th since 2007, and aims to raise awareness of rabies and advocate for its elimination.
One of the easiest and most effective tools we have to fight rabies is vaccination. Rabies is a zoonotic disease, meaning it is transmitted by animals and can infect humans. It's most commonly spread by the bite of a rabid animal, but responsible pet ownership can keep you and your pets safe.
Vaccinating your pets against rabies not only protects them from potentially contracting the disease, it also stops the spread. Keeping your cats and dogs leashed and away from wildlife can prevent them from encountering a rabid animal.
💉 Speak to your veterinarian about ensuring all your pets are properly vaccinated.
📞 If you are bit by an animal, seek medical attention and report the incident.
