County Conversations is a monthly show that shines a light on the people that power Lethbridge County. Hosted by Trevor Lewington, each episode features County employees sharing their stories, their backgrounds, and what they do every day to help build a vibrant community.

September's guest is Jeran Lynnes.

Jeran came to the County straight out of high school, diving right into whatever project came his way. From data entry to facilities maintenance to co-leading the parade season, over last couple of years, he’s tried his hand at almost everything.

When he’s not on County business, you’ll find him in the lecture halls and practice rooms of the University of Lethbridge, where he’s pursuing a degree in music, or behind the drumkit at a Heartvelvets show.

We’re excited to welcome Charlene Scheffelmair to Lethbridge County as our first County Solicitor!

Charlene joins our team today, Sept. 15, bringing legal expertise closer to the day-to-day work happening across the County.

Having legal counsel in-house will help us get advice earlier, move agreements and transactions forward more efficiently and identify risks before they become bigger challenges. It’s another way we’re building a strong, responsive organization that’s ready for what’s ahead.

Charlene comes to the County from Davidson & Williams LLP, where she was a partner working in corporate and commercial law, real estate, contracts and municipal planning and development.

She’s also deeply connected to southern Alberta. Charlene currently serves as Chair of the Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce, is Past President of Economic Development Lethbridge and was named to Lethbridge’s 2026 Top 40 Under 40.

Curbside recycling is almost here! ♻

Communities receiving curbside recycling will receive their blue cards on Sept 16 and 21. City of Lethbridge staff will also be on-site with a Q&A popup to answer any questions you may have. See the schedule below.

📆Sept 16: Cart delivery & Q&A popup for Fairview, Monarch and Mountain Meadows.
8-9 a.m. at the Fairview playground
1-2 p.m. in Mountain Meadows, near the mailboxes
5:30-6:30 p.m. in Monarch, outside the community centre

📆Sept 21: Cart delivery & Q&A popup for Deer Run Estates, Diamond City and Shaughnessy.
Noon to 2 p.m. in Shaughnessy, outside the community centre

You should know:
- Pickup will be biweekly
- Communities that are not part of this program can continue to use the recycling trailers
- The program is run by a third party organization (not the County)
- Garbage pickup will stay the same

🌧️ Heavy rainfall is impacting roads across Lethbridge County.

After several days of rain, many gravel roads are saturated. Our crews need to give them time to dry before grading can begin. Grading too soon can cause deeper ruts, weaken the road base and create more damage.

With more than 2,000 km of roads to maintain, we won’t be able to get to every road right away. We’ll prioritize safety and access concerns, drainage issues and the roads with the most significant impacts.

If conditions improve, we may be able to start grading some roads as early as Saturday.

You can help protect wet roads:
🚗 Slow down
🚜 Avoid unnecessary heavy travel
💧 Don’t drive through standing water
🚧 Never drive around barricades

🏠 Standing water on your property? Call before you pump.

Pumping water into a ditch, culvert, canal or stormwater system can affect roads and neighbouring or downstream properties. You may also need provincial or County approval before discharging water.

🚧 Construction update: The rainfall has also delayed several road, bridge and culvert projects. Check lethcounty.ca/p/road-closures for current road closures and construction information.
