✨Design Tip Tuesday ✨
Why One Ceiling Light Isn’t Enough

If your room feels flat, shadowy, or just not quite right, there’s a good chance you’re relying on a single overhead light.

One light source simply isn’t enough to properly light a space. Designers use layered lighting to create warmth, function, and visual interest.

Here’s how to layer lighting like a designer:

✔ Ambient Lighting — Your main source of light (ceiling fixtures, pot lights, chandeliers). This provides overall illumination.

✔ Task Lighting — Lighting for function (pendant lights over islands, reading lamps, under-cabinet lighting). This helps you actually use the space comfortably.

✔ Accent Lighting — Lighting that adds depth and mood (wall sconces, cabinet lighting, art lighting). This is what makes a space feel finished and inviting.

Designer Tip:
When planning a renovation or new build, lighting should be considered early in the design process. The right lighting plan can completely change how your home looks and feels.

✨Design Tip Tuesday ✨

The most common rug mistake we see in homes?
Choosing one that’s too small.

A rug should anchor your furniture, not float in the middle of the room. When rugs are too small, rooms can feel disconnected and unfinished.

Here are a few tips to follow to ensure you select the perfect rug for your space:

✔️ Living Room: Your rug should be large enough for at least the front legs of your furniture to sit on it.
✔️ Dining Room: Your rug should extend about 24 inches past the table so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out.
✔️ Bedroom: Your rug should extend 18–24 inches past the sides of the bed so your feet land on something soft in the morning.

When in doubt — go bigger.
A properly sized rug makes a space feel polished, intentional, and complete.

If you are in the market for a new rug, come by our showroom to see our selections of beautiful rugs suited for any style or budget.

✨ DESIGN TIP TUESDAY ✨

If your space is feeling a little flat, try introducing a pop of colour through a statement piece.

Think: a bold accent chair, a richly toned sofa, or even a painted cabinet that draws the eye the moment you walk in. These pieces act as focal points—adding personality without overwhelming the room.

The key is balance. Keep your base palette neutral, then layer in colour intentionally through one or two standout elements. It’s a simple way to elevate a space while still keeping it timeless.

A little colour goes a long way ✨
