"📚 A New Chapter for Kent Bookstore 📚
To our wonderful community,
For 33 years, this bookstore has been our life’s work and one of our greatest joys. Together, we have built something truly rare—a place where stories are shared, friendships are made, and a mutual love for books thrives.
After much reflection, the time has come for both of us (Cheri & Lisa) to step into a well-earned retirement. This decision does not come lightly, but it is filled with immense gratitude. We cherish every single relationship we have built over the decades and want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your loyal, long-time support. You truly made this little shop what it is today.
While we are turning the page, the story of Kent Bookstore is far from over! We are absolutely thrilled to share that the bookstore will continue thriving. A young, enthusiastic book lover, Abigayle is taking the reins to carry forward the spirit, values, and legacy of this space.
We are fully committed to a smooth transition so that your favorite neighborhood hub remains just as strong as ever.
Thank you for being part of our story. We will miss seeing you from behind the counter, but we are deeply grateful for the decades of memories.
With all our love and appreciation,
✨ Cheri & Lisa ✨
The store will be closed Sept. 28 to Oct. 1 for the transition, Will reopen Oct. 2, sorry for any inconvenience

“I said, ‘the pair of us look like some scratch ‘n win tickets,’ and Earn said, ‘More like scratch ‘n lose.’”
Knickle is a young Islander with no friends, direction, or purpose in his life. When he drives to northern New Brunswick to pick up an acquaintance’s brother from a mental health hospital, the pair make a sudden decision to travel further west to try to find a life amidst the chaos of Upper Canada. In the big city of Tah-ron-ah for the first time, Knickle discovers love, hope, and profound loss.
A hilarious, sensitive, and heady working-class odyssey rife with metaphorical richness and references to literature, film, and 90s music, Your Breath in Charcoal peers into the mind of its irrepressible and relentlessly quotable East Coast everyman. A follow-up to Some Hellish, Herring’s breathtaking Atwood Gibson Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize-winning debut novel, Your Breath in Charcoal marks yet another galvanizing entry into the East Coast literary canon.

The award-winning, bestselling author of Station Eleven and Sea of Tranquillity returns with a breathtaking novel of doubles, shadow worlds, and fractured timelines as a man disappears from a glittering Los Angeles party, and a woman—a gunrunner, an art collector, an operative of the State—searches for answers.
Los Angeles, 2031: The first spring after the collapse of the United States, peacekeeping troops withdraw from the city, the Jacaranda trees blossom, and the curfew is finally lifted. Ari Waker and her roommate pass the gauntlet of bomb-sniffing dogs, the shanty towns, and the Red Cross tents as they walk across Silverlake to a party. The mood is ecstatic inside the apartment, people drink and dance, a woman wears a silver dress, pleated like tinfoil. And then: A shift. A bewildered twin, an uncanny doppelganger stumbles through the crowd and out into the night, and Kareem, the party’s host, vanishes into thin air.
As Ari Waker unravels the mystery of this inexplicable night, Emily St. John Mandel unfurls a story that takes us from a future America splintered by civil war to the seaside cliffs of Greece where weapons dealers hide in an elegant resort, and from the domed city of Paris to a colony on the moon. An unforgettable literary feat, Exit Party is a novel about the price of safety, the perils of the surveillance state, a requiem for a world not unlike our own, and a breathtaking story of resilience in the face of cataclysmic change.

A brilliant and touching memoir about the dreams and desires passed down through three generations of a family by one of Canada’s most admired and accomplished writers.
In March of 1941, Helen Humphreys’s grandfather, Dudley, disappeared near the island of Malta. He was travelling with a crew on a Wellington bomber to the island, where he would take command of the RAF station. At 5:45 a.m. the pilot of the Wellington sent out a radio call to say that he was under attack, and then there was nothing further. No trace of the plane, or of any of the seven men aboard, was ever found.
The loss of this husband and father would reverberate through the family for years, cutting short Dudley’s dream to return from Britain to the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia to start an orchard in the place where he spent his adolescence. Decades on, the son who was left behind, Helen’s father, would partially realize that dream and move his family to Canada. And even more years on, a family member would discover a cache of short stories written by Dudley about his experiences in the trenches in World War I and share them with Helen. She knew that the grandfather she never met had wanted to be a writer but had not expected that any of his stories had survived.
Weaving in memory, reconstructed family history and her grandfather’s stories, Helen Humphreys explores the nature of inherited dreams within a family. Do dreams and desires pass through DNA like a physical trait, from one generation to the next and the next after that? What continues? And how does it continue?

An anthology about moving through the world on foot – as a woman.
Women, Walking explores the broad spectrum of women’s experiences and perspectives on walking, from everyday strolls that let the mind breathe to ambitious journeys that test courage and resolve.
Co-edited by Zahra Ebrahim and Jane Farrow, this anthology features thirty vignettes, essays, graphic art, poems, and interviews, with contributors discussing identity, love, social connection, grief, and wonder. They each take us on a different path, but share common ground in highlighting the deep significance to be found in an ordinary walk.
The contributors come from all walks of life; among them are Jenny Odell, Miriam Toews, Andrea Gibson, Zalika Reid-Benta, Janika Oza, Ann-Marie MacDonald, and Catherine Hernandez. Whether they take you on a meander or a hike, a parade or a promenade, they all offer relatable and insightful reflections on walking to lose yourself, find yourself, and everything in between.

In 1969, the body of a young female murder victim was found discarded down a rocky outcropping off Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles. Now, fifty-seven years later, true crime writer Catherine Fogarty is determined to tell the young woman’s story, drawing much-needed attention to her long-forgotten case—and potentially unmasking her killer.
The Girl with No Name follows Fogarty’s investigation as she seeks to uncover the truth behind the murder of nineteen-year-old Montreal native R**t Jurvetson. Set against the backdrop of a tumultuous decade, and one of the most infamous crime sprees in American history, the author re-examines the young woman’s brutal death and questions the heartbreaking reality of why she remained unidentified for almost half a century.
Inspired by the passion and commitment of other true crime writers, such as Michelle McNamara (I’ll Be Gone in the Dark) and John Allore (Wish You Were Here), and motivated by her own fractured past, Fogarty refuses to let R**t Jurvetson be forgotten.
Collaborating with cold case investigators in Los Angeles and Montreal, new clues and potential suspects emerge in the case. Despite fading memories, closed doors, dead ends and the police’s blue wall of silence, Fogarty’s amateur sleuthing begins to uncover answers to the decades-old murder.
As the investigation unfolds, startling revelations come to light from the most unlikely of sources, unravelling long-buried lies and exposing secrets (and truths) that were expected to stay hidden forever.
