Warden's Statement for National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, September 30, 2026:

Today, on the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, we pause to reflect on the ongoing legacy of residential schools and our responsibility to build and strengthen relationships with Indigenous Peoples and communities.

We must recognize the painful legacy of the residential school system and the lasting impacts it has had on Indigenous individuals, families, and communities. We honour the Survivors, their families, and the generations of Indigenous Peoples whose strength, resilience, and leadership continue to guide the path toward reconciliation.

As we acknowledge that we live and work on lands covered by historic treaties and traditional territories, we are reminded that reconciliation is rooted in relationships, respect, and a commitment to work together. We all have a responsibility to learn, listen, and act in ways that honour those relationships.

I encourage everyone to take part in the events, activities, and learning opportunities happening today, wear orange, and reflect on what reconciliation means in your life.

Reconciliation is an ongoing journey. By working together in a spirit of respect and mutual understanding, we can help build a future that reflects the shared values and aspirations of all those who call this land home.

Thank you.
