Urban Roots London is excited to invite you to participate in our Harvest Exchange, a seasonal fundraiser that brings together local food outlets and local produce, fresh from our farm. In partnership with local London food outlets, we will be sharing this year’s harvest at different locations throughout the city.

We are so excited to participate in the 25th annual Doors Open London Celebration! Presented by London Heritage Council, this event gives Londoners the opportunity to explore different organizations, museums and heritage sites in the city free of charge! 🏛️

On September 20th, 2026, Urban Roots will be offering a farm tour, bee workshop and the opportunity to attend our AGM to learn more about our work. 🐝🌱🧑‍🌾

Shirley has been a dedicated volunteer at Urban Roots for three seasons. She started coming to the farm on Wednesdays for regular volunteer tasks, but when Urban Roots was gifted a few pollinator plants, Shirley’s gardening skills really started to shine. She transformed a small vacant plot into a flourishing pollinator garden that she maintains throughout the season. 🌷

Shirley is kind, funny and far too humble for all the hard work she does. When asked why she continues to show up, she said she enjoys Urban Roots for the people who make the work possible, and the lack of hierarchies that make her feel truly appreciated as a volunteer. As a retiree, she volunteers not just for something to do, but rather to play a small role in a greater purpose. She loves to see the impact of making fresh, local food more accessible for our community. In her words, “I do it because it satisfies my soul”.

We would like to extend a massive thank you to Shirley for every day she showed up to make Urban Roots a better place. For every w**d pulled, every baked good shared, and for all the love and care she puts into the farm and each one of us. To Shirley, and every volunteer who has showed up for us over the years, thank you for being part of the Urban Roots Family. We couldn’t do it without you. ❤️

LUSO has been in partnership with Urban Roots London for three seasons. Together, we provide opportunities for high school students to fulfill their volunteer hours and connect with nature while enhancing food security in our community.

Through the Youth Organizing Leadership Opportunities (YOLO) program, students can connect with Urban Roots and participate in volunteer sessions at the Siloam garden site. Every Friday, students show up to the garden to help w**d and water the beds. Students come together from different schools, backgrounds and experience levels. What they all have in common is curiosity, a passion for working in nature and a desire to learn more about growing food. They reflect that it is hard work, and they expected more planting, but they have learned that the core of agriculture is maintenance. The tedious but necessary tasks that allow the plants to grow and thrive. They keep showing up because they like the work we do, and they appreciate the opportunity to get experience working in agriculture.

Since 2024, students have showed up to help maintain the Siloam bed for a cumulative 40 hours. With the help of these students, Urban Roots has increased the productivity of the Siloam garden site and distributed more produce to more people every year. Big thank you to LUSO and the dedicated volunteers who have helped us distribute more affordable, local and organically grown produce to our community.
