Magreth used to think the greatest danger to her son was the sun. Samuel was born with albinism, like her. She taught him to stay in the shade, to protect his eyes, to be careful.

Then the phone rang. Samuel’s friend John had been attacked in his own home because of beliefs about his skin. He was taken to hospital with deep wounds. When Magreth heard the news, fear settled in her body and did not leave. 😔

From that day on, Magreth watched Samuel more closely. She walked him to school. She warned him not to wander. Even his classmates told him to stay home, afraid someone might hurt him too.

The danger was no longer the sun. It was what people believed.

Magreth made a decision no parent wants to make. She sent Samuel to a boarding school so he could study in safety. The separation was painful, but she knew education could protect him in ways she could not.

Samuel is safe now. He is learning. He dreams of becoming a doctor. He is supported by his family, his church and his Compassion centre. 💙

“I pray every day for children like Samuel,” Magreth says. “I thank God that my son is safe in school.”

On World Albinism Day, we remember children who live with risk because of misinformation and fear. And we stand with families who choose courage, protection and hope.

Aditto is eight years old and his favourite toys are empty biscuit packets.

In his village, toys are rare. But Aditto has learned how to turn what he finds into something new.

At the Compassion centre, he collects empty biscuit wrappers and folds them into small trucks. 🛻 He carries mud and sand with them. When one breaks, he makes another.

At home, Aditto’s family has very little. His father works when he can, gathering firewood, fishing and making baskets.

During the monsoon season, work disappears. Some days, there is only one meal. Some days, there is none. 😔

His mother works long hours in the tea fields. She keeps going because her children need her.

“I know my love is not enough for my children,” she says. “But it is the only priceless possession I can pass on to them.”

With Compassion's support, the family receives food when work runs dry. It helps them get through the hardest months. It gives Aditto the chance to keep learning, playing and growing.

In a home with almost nothing, joy still finds a way in. Through small hands. Simple play. A family held together by love. 💙

🙏 Please join us in prayer for the southern Philippines, where a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck on June 7th. The earthquake triggered a landslide, leading to casualties and displacing thousands. Aftershocks have prompted tsunami warnings and emergency evacuations.

Compassion’s local church partners are already on the ground, walking alongside children and families affected by this disaster. Please pray for them as they care for their communities in the aftermath, helping bring hope and stability in this difficult time.
