Crafted Hugs

I hate the word "charity" but I haven't found a better word to describe donating crafted items to those who need them. When I retired 11 years ago I had had my fill of crafting for sale - but I still love to knit, crochet and play with paper. I had no idea how or where to donate the items I made, until I landed in hospital in 2016 and realized that there was probably a need in the hospital or senior care facilities. I spoke to someone in the Hospital Foundation Office (on the advice of one of the nurses) and hence began this new "career". I soon realized that there were many others doing what I was doing, but no way to share information on what was needed, where it was needed and who could fill this need. For the past 5 years I have been doing this in a haphazard way but I am now hoping that a network will develop from this page so information can be shared. Today (February 6, 2021) I received a huge donation of yarn and other craft materials thanks to the Little Family - more on this in my newsfeed. I spent Thursday and Friday phoning my contacts in the care facilities and have a home for almost all of the materials I received. I invite crafters, those working in care facilities, and anyone else who would like to participate to join.
