Co-Founder and CEO of the BC Environmental Film Festival, Founder and CEO of African Persys, Founder of the Iranian Film Society, Founder of the Vancouver Iranian Film Society, Founder , Co-Founder of Radrou Pictures Canada I’ve spent a lot of time on my own, and that has taught me valuable lessons, like knowing when to hold on and when to let go—a skill not everyone masters in life. Nothing has ever been handed to me; everything I have, I’ve earned through hard work and perseverance. As a Canadian-Iranian who has lived in Iran, Kenya, and Canada, I’ve learned to understand and appreciate cultural differences. These experiences have given me a deeper connection to people from all walks of life, enriching my ability to lead and collaborate across borders. I am the Co-Founder and CEO of the BC Environmental Film Festival, the Founder and CEO of African Persys, the Founder of the Iranian Film Society and the Vancouver Iranian Film Society, the Founder and Ex-CEO of Aria Persys Film Production, and the Co-Founder of Radrou Pictures Canada (Film Distribution and Production). At African Persys, I combine luxury travel with sustainable tourism to offer unique safari experiences that create lasting memories and benefit local communities. My passion for filmmaking has led me to produce feature films across the globe, including Kenya. Through the BC Environmental Film Festival, I continue to explore the power of film in addressing environmental challenges. I value personal growth, always striving to improve myself both physically and mentally. I stay active and constantly push my limits because I believe in challenging myself to reach new heights. Whether in business, filmmaking, or personal life, I’ve always pushed forward, knowing that everything worth having is earned.

One of the most rewarding parts of building BCEFF isn’t organizing a film festival.
It’s watching ideas grow.
A few years ago, during our Breaking the Waves Workshop on Gabriola Island, we brought together filmmakers, scientists, artists, and environmental communicators to explore one question:
How do we help people care more deeply about nature?
Today, one of those ideas—You Are Here by Julie Kim—has been featured on CBC Radio as an immersive public art installation that helps people reconnect with the ocean through sound, movement, and emotion.
Hearing Julie mention that the project was incubated through our workshop was a proud moment. It’s exactly why we created BCEFF: not only to screen environmental films, but to create spaces where new collaborations and creative ideas can emerge.
Congratulations to Julie Kim and Jen McRuer on this well-deserved recognition, and to and everyone at Centre for Ocean Literacy Collaboration Ocean Week Canada for championing innovative ways to inspire ocean literacy across Canada.
I’m excited to see where this project goes next.
