Our Grade 5 students took their learning outdoors with a field trip to Golden Ears Provincial Park! 🌲

Surrounded by mountains, forests, and fresh air, students had the chance to explore, learn, and enjoy time together outside the classroom.

Field trips like these give our students opportunities to experience God’s creation firsthand, build friendships, and grow as curious and responsible learners 💙

MRCS is looking for a Part-Time Out-of-School Care Program Assistant to join our growing elementary school community.

This role will support the Program Coordinator in running our out-of-school care program and supervising students.

💰 $24.82–$26.85/hour, depending on education, certification & experience

• Has ECE certification (recommended)
• Has experience working with children

70 YEARS, 70 STORIES 💙 | Story 2

Some of the moments that define a community are the smallest ones.

For Mr. Zab Vilayil, one of those moments happened on a snowy afternoon during his first winter at MRCS. A flat tire. A staff member heading home in a t-shirt. And Graham Coates stopping anyway, kneeling in the snow to help.

“It was a small thing. It stayed with me.”

That simple act became a picture of what community means at MRCS: showing up for one another, making room, and extending grace in the moments when it would be easier not to.

Since joining MRCS in 2022, Zab has experienced a community rooted in a shared faith while making room for every person, every family, and every story they bring with them.

This is the heart of the MRCS community: everyone remembers who made room for them.

Grade 4A traded the classroom for the forest on their field trip to the Coquitlam Watershed! 🌲

Students explored an old-growth forest, hiked through the watershed, and learned what it means to become Water Ambassadors - growing their understanding of the importance of caring for and protecting God’s creation.

After their final hike, the class gathered at the canopy for lunch and a well-earned break. We can’t wait to hear what they’ve learned when they share with our community at Chapel in October!

For 70 years, the MRCS story has been shaped by the people who have learned, taught, served, and grown here.

To begin our series, we’re hearing from Mrs. Stacy Sowerby, Associate Principal of Learning & Programs, who has experienced MRCS as a teacher, school leader, and parent.

We asked her:

What makes learning at MRCS meaningful, and keeps families choosing our school year after year?

For Stacy, it comes down to more than academics.

It’s a school where students are known, patiently supported, and given room to flourish in their own way. Where faith is woven into learning and relationships, helping students “truly see God’s story and understand their own place in it.”

And beyond academics, it’s the community.

“We feel known, seen, and loved right alongside our children.”

Sixteen years and three children later, Stacy has experienced that firsthand, and continues to see it in the way our staff walk alongside students as they grow, learn, and discover who God has created them to be.

70 years of faith, learning, and community.

Throwback to last year’s Terry Fox Run 🏃🏼

Join us on Tuesday, September 22, as our MRCS community comes together to honour Terry Fox’s legacy and support cancer research!

📍 Meet in the Gym
Elementary: 8:45 AM
Middle & High School: 10:00 AM

We’ll kick things off with a group warm-up before heading out on our routes! Elementary students will have two route options, with a shorter route designed for our primary students and those who need it. Grades 4 and 5 may participate in the longer route with teacher approval.

🍊 Oranges will be provided for everyone at the finish line!

💛 How you can get involved:

Parents are welcome to join us for the run! We’re also looking for volunteers to help along both routes. If you’re available, please reach out to the school.
We encourage each student to bring a toonie in support of cancer research.
