A year ago, you were sitting around my kitchen table, armed with big ideas and a deep belief that government could make people's lives better.

Even then, I was impressed.

Not just by how smart you are, but by how thoughtfully you approach the world. You care. You listen. You ask hard questions. And you never stop looking for ways to make a difference.

Today, you graduate with a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction, Honours in Political Science, and a Minor in Legal Studies. And now you're off to Victoria to begin the next chapter with the provincial government.

What I hope you know is just how remarkable that is.

You have worked so hard for this moment, and it couldn't be more deserved. I am incredibly proud of everything you've accomplished, but even more excited for what comes next.

Go take on the world, Jaelyn.

This afternoon, I had the privilege of presenting a $2,500 donation to the 2nd Haney Guides through the Maple Ridge Community Foundation as part of the Citizen of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award.

The presentation took place at Maple Ridge Cemetery, where the girls were volunteering their time cleaning headstones and caring for a place that holds so much local history.

My favourite part of the afternoon, though, was watching how excited they were when the news arrived. Seeing them proudly spell their names for the reporter and talk about the work they were doing was a wonderful reminder of why organizations like the Girl Guides matter.

These young people are learning the value of service, leadership, and community—and are proof our future is in good hands.

Thank you to the Maple Ridge Community Foundation for this meaningful recognition, and to the 2nd Haney Guides for reminding all of us that community starts with showing up and helping out 🩵

Thank you to everyone who came out for the Pitt Meadows Day Parade. Seeing the excitement on kids' faces as they grabbed flags and friendship bracelets was one of my favourite moments.

Congratulations to Jonathan Wilkinson on his appointment as Canada's Ambassador to the European Union.

While I'm sorry to see him leave Parliament, this new role is incredibly well deserved.

During the last election, when I was a first-time candidate, Jonathan spent an afternoon with our campaign team in Pitt Meadows–Maple Ridge, sharing his time, experience, and encouragement when it mattered most.

His support reflected a style of leadership rooted in service, mentorship, and helping others succeed.

Thank you, Jonathan, for your service to Canadians, and congratulations on this important new role strengthening Canada's relationship with one of our most important international partners.

Tonight I had the pleasure of attending the campaign launch for Alison Evans as she seeks re-election to Pitt Meadows City Council.

Some of the decisions that affect our daily lives most directly are made at the municipal level — parks, planning, roads, and community services — which is why this election matters.

On October 17, residents across BC will have the opportunity to choose the people who will help guide their communities for the next four years. I encourage everyone to get informed, ask questions, attend events, and stay engaged in the process.

Strong communities are built when people participate.

Congratulations to Alison on a great launch event, and best wishes as the campaign gets underway.

Tonight I attended the City of Maple Ridge's Hometown Heroes Celebration at Samuel Robertson Technical Secondary School, an evening recognizing local athletes who inspire our community both on and off the field.

Community sports keep kids active, healthy, and engaged, while also building confidence, friendships, life skills, and opportunities that can last a lifetime. Sports do so much more than fill arenas and gyms, they help build community.

It was especially meaningful hearing Megan Kinna speak so emotionally about the sacrifices her family made along the way, and her appreciation for the volunteers who support young athletes in our community every day.

Her speech brought tears to my eyes.

Thank you to everyone who helped make tonight such a special evening of celebration and connection. And congratulations to Megan on this well-deserved recognition — our community is proud of you ❤️
