🌾Crop cover season is here! Add more nitrogen into the soil naturally with Fall Rye.
🌾We carry two varieties of Fall Rye, the classic blend and the blend mixed with legumes.
🌾These blends bring nitrogen back to the soil and helps prevent soil erosion over the rainy months.
🌾Sew the blends late September to October.
🌾Turn them over in the spring once they reach 30cm in hight.

🧄Garlic season is here and we have a great selection!
Looking to start growing your own but don’t know where to start? Here are some garlic growing tips.
📆For fall planting you have a window of September to November to get the bulbs in the ground.
🧑🏻🌾Separate the cloves and set each one pointed side up, 10-15cm apart, 2-5cm deep.
(Don’t skin the cloves)
🌾Add a layer of straw or raked leaves on top to help protect the cloves from frost and snow.
🌱Cut the garlic scapes off as they grow. This prevents the garlic waisting energy producing flowers. They also taste amazing in stir-fries and soup.
🧄Harvest when the tops begin to dry. Pull them out and air dry them like onions.
🌹🧄Companion planting tip. Planting garlic near roses can help repel aphids.

🍂🍃Let’s get composting!🍃🍂
Composting reduces the amount garbage ending up in the landfill and helps feed your plants once broken down.
Not everyone has the space for an outdoor composting bin, here’s how to make one for the garage.
🔨🪵Set up:
•Start with a large container and drill 10, half inch holes at the bottom for drainage.
•Make sure the container you’re using has one square foot of space for every pound of material you would use in a week.
•Fill the container with 5in of moist peat moss.
•Add a layer of moist shedded paper.
•Now add worms. Add one pound of worms for every 7 pounds of organic material used in a week.
🥬🍅Adding material:
•Every 2-3 days add the vegetable waste you have collected by digging a hole into the medium and dumping it in.
•Take note of which area you’ve used.
•Each addition should be placed in a new hole.
•If done correctly, the compost should be complete and ready to use on your plants within 8-10 weeks and the system started all over again.
•You will know when the compost is ready because very little to no shredded paper will be visible, and the earthy medium will appear dark with a pleasant odour.
🪱Collecting:
•It is important to remove the worms from the finished compost or they will begin to die.
•Refrain from feeding your worms 7 days prior to collection.
•On day 8, place a sheet of moist newspaper on the top of the bin and dump in a small amount of organic material.
•Wait for 48 hours and the worms will have relocated on top of and under this newspaper, allowing you to harvest the worm castings without the worms.
✅Acceptable materials to compost:
•Raw vegetable waste
•Leaves
•Egg shells
•Napkins
•Coffee grounds
•Tea bags
❌What materials not to compost:
•No bread
•No meat
•No dairy
•No Cereal
•No styrofoam
•No sticks
