The Canadian & Global coffee industry has already pivoted around the USA tariffs last year.
Oil is the largest Globally traded commodity.

Coffee beans are the 2nd. with coffee traditionally traded on the 'New York Coffee market' in USD.

Global green coffee buyers responded by diverting green coffees away from USA ports & warehousing.

As Grab-a-Java's green bean buying since 1998, I have experienced many changes in Green coffee bean Contracts & Spot prices & terms & currency issues.

A system of 'landing' massive green coffee shipments into the USA duty free to distribute out globally was upended.
Canada, among other countries, shifted to accept, warehouse & distribute some of this global green coffee industry.

My whole career we watched the changes in coffee production, supply, and US currency and the "New York C" price
Now, I can buy green coffees stored in the same Delta warehouse, offloaded in the same way through the Ports of Vancouver.
Today, the coffee bean as a commodity, is easily Contracted in Canadian currency no longer passing through the USA on to global markets. Landing in Canada or other nations for warehousing & global distribution.

Northern Peru in 2005 we walked into a Andes Mountains Cafe Femenino Coffee Coop of Auqua Azul.
The next morning, with little sleep due to rough beds & those roosters, our Coop member loudly informs us he went to the village nearby & knows todays coffee prices on the " New York C" in USD $.
We all laughed as we would all check that daily but he knew no cell service.
It was as this point.....
I was in the Northern Andes mountains,
at 7000 feet elevation, and our Coffee Farmer, struggling to read or write, knew the current price of coffee trading in USD. in NY.
He's living off grid & just told us 10 small to medium coffee Roasters & buyers the current price.
We sipped coffee watching the sunrise toward the east to see the Amazon headwaters we swam in the day before.
Just the roosters, the Specialty Coffee Roasters & buyers, and our amazing Cafe Femenino Peru Farmers & Coop Managers.
The conversation soon revolved around the new Information revolution we had just experienced. The change was profound.

That morning we all imagined a future where our coffee buying, contracts, and more were to changing.

Never did I think that my coffee farming partners would be checking the "Commodity Price of Coffee on the Vancouver C" and trading in Canadian currency or?

The Green coffee market & industry has already shifted away from this instability by not 'landing' coffee into the USA.
Outstanding for Canada's west coast can store & redistribute more of the global coffee industry.

More ship to rail and warehousing.
Every green, unroasted coffee bean at Grab-a-Java since 1998 arrived by container through the Port of Vancouver usually offloaded on the Mighty Fraser River!!!!
Coffee is the 2nd largest traded commodity on this planet.
I never imagined that morning in 2005, while sipping coffees in the chilly, high Peruvian mountain air, that one day that massive coffee trade could be asking a different question;
What is todays price on the "Vancouver Coffee" in Canadian dollars!
Canada has many new & growing green coffee companies & the 'old' way through New York is fading.
Coffee is easily Traded in Canada in currency.
The world pivoted & Vancouver gets more & better coffees!

Perhaps the last Port of Vancouver undeveloped facilties potential & lands on the Fraser River to Mission will be a part of the Port of Vancouver's 17 major load, offload, & ship to rail future expansion.

Mission's Waterfront re-development is the whole Fraser River to Ruskin.
It is time we shock the federal 'Ports' expansion money tree too.

The Port of Vancouver operates throughout many municipalities & areas along the Fraser River, tidal and salt waters.
Now you know.

Oh reminder Mission's Fraser River has a old B.C. Ferry parked here so yes the river is a huge commercial goods & vessel mover already.

Stave Falls Railway

Did you know Mission, BC was once claimed to have the "shortest railroad in the world"?

Measuring only 10 km, the Stave Falls Railway was claimed by some to be the “shortest railroad in the world.” Chartered by the government, the line began operating in 1910 to transport freight to the dam site. In 1911 Robert Hayward, general manager at the Stave Falls power development, reported: “Without the railway, the construction work could not have been carried to completion.” Eventually, the mini-railway also carried passengers at a cost of 25 cents per person.

An inscription on the back of the posted photograph housed in the Community Archives, states the railway was operated by a “Daddy Moe from Missouri” and the “kids all loved him.”
