We donât come across turtles on every project, but last week, we stumbled upon an Eastern Painted Turtle, quickly nicknamed the âPainted Tortellini.â
Eastern Painted Turtles are listed as a species of Special Concern in New Brunswick. Encounters like this are an important reminder that construction and development can move forward while still respecting the wildlife and habitats around us.
Thoughtful planning, careful site awareness and practical protective measures can make a meaningful difference.
Construction has to happen, but it should happen responsibly and sustainably.

Out with the old, protecting whatâs below đ
Underground Storage Tank (UST) removals are a critical step in preventing long-term environmental impacts. Whether itâs old fuel systems or legacy infrastructure, these tanks can pose risks to soil and groundwater if left unchecked.
Our team is on-site managing safe excavation, removal, and environmental oversight-ensuring everything is handled properly from start to finish.
Clean site. Reduced risk. Done right.

With spring conditions emerging across Atlantic Canada, our field teams are back in full swing.
Bryan, one of our Wetland Delineators, is currently conducting field assessments as vegetation begins to re-establish. This seasonal transition is a critical window for accurate wetland identification, allowing for proper evaluation of hydrology, soils, and plant communities.
Wetland delineation plays an important role in responsible land development and environmental protection, ensuring projects move forward with the right data and regulatory alignment.
If your project requires wetland assessment or environmental support this season, our team is ready to assist.

Whatâs beneath the surface matters.
Before any project begins, understanding the ground below helps protect what came before us, and ensures we move forward responsibly.
Hive Engineering now offers in-house archaeological services, supporting projects across Atlantic Canada with culturally responsible assessments and regulatory compliance.
Itâs not just about development, itâs about doing it right.

đ Small actions. Real impact.
A few of our Moncton crew got out today for the City Clean Up, Moncton - doing our part to keep local waterways and green spaces clean!
Jake (Environmental Technologist) and Melissa (Biologist) spent the afternoon pulling debris from the river and surrounding areas, helping protect ecosystems right here in our backyard.
Events like this are a reminder that environmental work doesnât always start in reportsâŚsometimes it starts with boots in the water and a garbage bag in hand.
Letâs keep our communities clean, safe, and thriving đ
