đ Your body isnât broken.
Itâs overwhelmed.

Weâve spent decades teaching women to eat less, fear fat, ignore hunger and somehow call that health.
Meanwhile, I keep meeting depleted women who are restricting harder than ever and telling me, âI barely eat.â
The answer isnât less.
It never was.
Itâs time to actually feed your vessel!
Pleasure. Satiety. SAFETY. Nourishment. Every time.
Your body is ready for a different set of signals.
Letâs give it something beautiful to respond tođ

Bloodwork gives us a lot of information, but one draw is still just one moment in time.
Following those markers over time gives us something even more useful: context.
Because sometimes the most interesting part isnât where a marker is today. Itâs where itâs been and where itâs goingđŠľ

Some people come to me because they want more data.
Some have spent years trying to understand why they don't feel well and are ready to look deeper.
Some are living with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis and want to do deeper work toward remission.
And some simply want to understand their body well enough to make more informed health decisions for the rest of their life.
That's why BioEssence doesn't have one pathway. It has four.
⨠Continuum⢠for comprehensive blood chemistry, trend tracking, and uncovering what's happening beneath the surface.
⨠Blueprint⢠for 1:1 root-cause investigation into the patterns, stressors, and contributing factors that may be getting in the way.
⨠IBD Stabilization Sequence⢠for deeper Crohn's and ulcerative colitis work focused on contributing factors, calming reactivity, and building greater stability while working toward remission.
⨠Sovereign Health Mastery⢠for learning how your body works so you can become a more informed participant in your own health.
Different needs. Different paths.
Same belief in the resilience of the body.
I don't believe your body is something you need to spend your life fighting.
I want to understand it. Get curious about what it's been adapting to. Look at the data. Ask better questions. And figure out where we may be able to create better conditions for function.
Sometimes that means testing. Sometimes education. Sometimes changing the order of operations.
And sometimes it means slowing way down before we add another damn thing.
More curiosity. More context. More agency. Less fear.
Your body has spent your entire life adapting, compensating, protecting, and doing the best it can with what it's been given.
I think that's pretty damn remarkable.
And wherever you're starting from, I'm forever rooting for you. â¨
Not sure which path fits? You don't have to figure that out alone!

For more than two decades, Iâve explored health through lived experience, academic training, and clinical practice.
At 25, I experienced a rapid decline in my health. What began with fatigue, gut issues, and hormonal symptoms eventually progressed to neurological symptoms. Movement became difficult. At times, I couldnât even shower. I began waking each morning with my hands and feet curled inward, and it would take about 20 minutes before I could fully straighten them.
At its worst, I went to write myself a simple reminder note and couldnât remember how to write.
I saw countless specialists. Some told me I was fine. Others gave me diagnoses, but never a plan.
So I kept searching.
Through anti-inflammatory nutrition, nervous system education, and daily movement, I was able to reclaim about 85% of my health. But there were still missing pieces and questions no one could answer.
When I finally had access to functional lab testing, everything changed. I uncovered what had been overlooked all along:
⢠Gut infections
⢠Hormonal dysregulation
⢠Toxic environmental burden
⢠Genetic factors like the MTHFR mutation
For the first time, I wasnât just looking at a collection of symptoms. I had a map.
Today, I use that same functional approach to help others better understand the patterns within their own health. Through functional lab testing and personalized, integrative care, we look beyond individual symptoms to understand the bigger picture.
Because I know what it feels like to know something is wrong and not know where to look next. I know what it feels like to be handed another diagnosis when what you desperately want is understanding.
And I know how powerful it can be when the pieces finally begin to make sense.
That is why BioEssence exists.
This work is dedicated to the earlier version of me who so desperately needed it, and to anyone who needs it now.
Youâre not alone.
There is a way forward.
You got this!
Forever rooting for you,
Melissa xx

Something Iâve been working toward for a very long time is officially joining BioEssence. đ
Introducing the IBD Stabilization Sequenceâ˘, a personalized functional health program for people living with Crohnâs disease and ulcerative colitis.
This program may be new, but the work behind it isnât.
I spent five years obsessively researching therapeutic diets, speaking with hundreds of people living with IBD around the world, and trying to understand why some people were finding their way toward remission while others remained stuck in cycles of symptoms, flares, and increasing restriction.
That search took me back to school for holistic nutrition, and eventually back again for functional health.
The IBD Stabilization Sequence⢠is where all of those years of learning, lived experience, and clinical training finally come together.
At its core, the approach is simple:
Stabilize the terrain. Reduce the burden. Create space for healing.
The Sequence begins with structure. We simplify, reduce variables, identify potential triggers, and create enough stability to start seeing the patterns unique to your body.
From there, we get targeted.
We use nutrition, functional testing, and individualized interventions to explore the burdens that may be keeping the body reactive and work toward deeper, more sustainable remission.
But restriction is a tool, not the destination.
And if youâve ever found yourself saying, âSCD, IBD-AID, AIP... WTF?â youâre probably in the right place. đ
The goal is to create space for healing, then gradually build resilience, tolerance, food freedom, and trust in your body back in.
There is no single IBD diet. There is no perfect protocol. And there are no two people with Crohnâs disease or ulcerative colitis who arrived where they are in exactly the same way.
Thatâs where the Sequence begins. With you.
Iâve wanted to give this work its own home for a very long time, and Iâm so excited that it finally has one.
The IBD Stabilization Sequence⢠is officially open for clients with Crohnâs disease and ulcerative colitis.
Come take a look. Link in bio.
Forever rooting for you,
Melissa xx

There are so many ways women learn to disconnect from their bodies.
We learn to normalize pain because weâre told itâs part of being a woman. We learn to push through because life doesnât stop when weâre exhausted. We learn to shrink our diets, our bodies and our experiences in a culture that has taught generations of women to take up less space.
And when something does feel wrong, we often enter a healthcare system that divides the body into specialties, symptoms and individual diagnoses. Necessary in so many ways, but not always very good at stepping far enough back to ask what the whole picture might be saying.
Those two things can collide in a really interesting way.
A woman who has already learned to override her body can spend years being told that painful periods are normal, exhaustion is stress, her labs look fine, or each new symptom belongs in a different office.
Eventually, it can become really difficult to tell the difference between whatâs actually ânormalâ and what weâve simply learned to live with.
I think one of the most powerful shifts in health happens when we stop seeing the body as a collection of problems to fix and start getting curious about the patterns between them.
Not every symptom has one neat explanation. Not every connection means thereâs one magical âroot causeâ waiting to be uncovered.
But your body is not a collection of disconnected parts, either.
Digestion talks to hormones. Hormones talk to metabolism. Metabolism talks to the nervous system. The nervous system talks to immune function. Sleep, nourishment, stress, movement, environment, history... they all become part of the conversation.
Sometimes the beginning isnât another protocol.
Sometimes itâs finally asking better questions.

Your hormones donât exist in a vacuum, and neither do the symptoms we often associate with them.
Fatigue, acne, brain fog, mood changes, disrupted sleep, weight changes, or changes in your cycle can absolutely have a hormonal component. But those symptoms alone don't tell us why they're happening.
Hormones are constantly interacting with the rest of your physiology. Sleep and circadian rhythm matter. So do nourishment, blood sugar regulation, digestion, nutrient status, stress physiology, nervous system function, movement, recovery, and the stage of life you're in.
This is why Iâm much more interested in the pattern than any one symptom in isolation.
What changed? What else was happening around the same time? Which systems seem to be struggling together? What has your body been adapting to?
Sometimes the symptom that gets our attention isn't where the story began.
Your body leaves clues. Functional health gives us a way to slow down, zoom out, and start connecting them đ

Iâve spent a lot of time in personal development spaces over the years, and if thereâs one thing Iâve learned, itâs that knowing what to do and knowing how to navigate being human are two very different things.
Of everything Iâve learned along the way, these are three ideas that have really stayed with me:
Mindset. Control. Consequences.
Stay open to the possibility that things can change.
Learn what belongs to you, and give yourself permission to put down what doesnât.
Remember that your choices matter. Not because you should blame yourself when things go wrong, but because there is power in knowing you have influence over what comes next.
And through all of it, be gentle with yourself.
Youâre going to get things wrong.
Youâre going to change your mind.
Youâre going to look back and wish you knew then what you know now.
Thatâs not failure. Thatâs being human.
One of my favourite sayings is, âPerfection doesnât exist in nature.â
Signed, a card-carrying member of the Recovering Perfectionists Club đ
You donât need to be perfect to grow.
You donât need shame to take responsibility.
And you donât need to have everything figured out to choose again.
There is so much power in knowing that â¨
Forever rooting for you,
Melissa xx

Your cycle can tell you a lot about what your body needs. đ¤
Some days call for more movement and energy, while others call for rest and nourishment. Learning to tune in instead of pushing through can make a big difference in how you feel. đ¤
