Button started with one of the most ordinary pieces of furniture there is: the little wooden stool.

We kept coming back to old farmhouse stools and simple Scandinavian furniture — objects made from very few parts, where the proportions and construction do most of the work.

Our version became a little more playful: plywood legs, a round Formica top, and two big wing bolts holding the whole thing together.

Playfully simple.

We work in the space between one-off fabrication and mass production. We make small-batch furniture in Nelson, BC, designed to ship efficiently, assemble simply and bring some personality to a room without overwhelming it.

This September, we’re leaving the mountains for a few days and bringing a collection of our Nelson-made furniture to Studio North at IDS Vancouver.

We started Bothy with a straightforward idea: furniture can be useful, joyful and well made.
