🇿🇲🇦🇴 LOBITO CORRIDOR: MWINILUNGA–JIMBE ROAD MOVES FORWARD
There is encouraging progress on Zambia’s connection to Angola through the Lobito Corridor.
The African Development Bank has published procurement notices for consultancy services for the supervision of works on the Mwinilunga–Jimbe Road, under Zambia’s Lobito Integrated Economic Corridor Development Project.
The road has been divided into two sections:
Lot 1: approximately 52 kilometres from Mwinilunga to the Zambezi Source Access Road.
Lot 2: approximately 63 kilometres from the Zambezi Source Access Road all the way to Jimbe Border Post on the Zambia–Angola border, including the Nyamwana Spur Road.
This is significant.
For some time, we have spoken about the enormous potential of the Lobito Corridor to give Zambia greater access to the Atlantic Ocean through Angola. But corridors are ultimately built through roads, railways, border infrastructure, electricity, ports and functioning trade systems.
The movement on the Mwinilunga–Jimbe Road is therefore an important practical step.
On the Angolan side, the Lobito Corridor is already operational through the Port of Lobito and the Benguela Railway, which runs eastwards across Angola to Luau and onwards into the Democratic Republic of Congo. Zambia’s task is to ensure that our own connections into this emerging regional transport system move forward with equal determination.
An improved road from Mwinilunga to Jimbe will strengthen connectivity between North-Western Province and eastern Angola, support cross-border trade and agriculture, and contribute to the wider development of the Angola–Zambia economic relationship.
The work now must continue on both sides of the border.
The Lobito Corridor will not be built by declarations alone. It will be built kilometre by kilometre, project by project, and border by border.
This is progress worth noting.

As you redevelop UNZA’s parking lots and surrounding areas, please consider incorporating bus stops inside the campus, particularly near the main entrance, instead of having students board buses along the main road.
The Goma Lakes area could also be transformed into a landscaped park with walkways, seating and green spaces for students and staff.
Since construction is already underway, this is a great opportunity to build these essential features into a safer, greener and more modern UNZA.
