There’s a lot to learn about food service beyond the kitchen.

Recently, students in The Food Services Training Program (FSTP) visited the Legion for a guest lecture on tools ,equipment, sanitation and safety with Chef Bruce Woods.

Experiences like this give our students an opportunity to hear from experts in the field as they continue building their skills and exploring where their training can take them.

A warm thank you to Chef Bruce for sharing his time, expertise and experience with our newest cohort .

The newest students in The Food Services Training Program(FSTP) put their growing skills into action last week at an event alongside Chef Ric.

For the students, it was their first event and an opportunity to work together in a new setting, experience the pace of event service and apply what they have been learning.

They approached the experience with focus, teamwork and confidence and the event went extremely well.

We are incredibly proud of what they accomplished and look forward to seeing what this wonderful new cohort takes on next.

Good knife skills are not about speed. They begin with safety, control and consistency.

In the Chef Ric’s kitchen, Sous Chef Arneet is working alongside the newest students in The Food Services Training Program (FSTP) as they practice one of the foundations of working in a professional kitchen.

Learning how to handle a knife safely and create consistent cuts prepares students for the recipes, techniques and kitchen experience still to come.

It is a simple exercise with an important purpose and a strong start for the new class.

A little cake. A lot to celebrate. 🎂

Last week, we marked two special Chef Ric’s milestones: five years at our Rideau Street location and one year at the YMCA on Argyle Avenue.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by, shared lunch with us and helped make the day feel like a celebration.
These milestones represent far more than time. They reflect the customers, students, team members, partners and community who continue to be part of the Chef Ric’s story.
We’re grateful you celebrated with us and we’re looking forward to what comes next. 💙

Thank you for continuing to support Chef Ric’s and the work of The Ottawa Mission, which includes culinary training, job placements, and providing meals and shelter in our community.

Five years. One year. And plenty more ahead. đź’™

Today, we are celebrating two pretty special milestones.

Chef Ric’s has now been part of the community for five years, and this month marks one year at our YMCA location on Argyle Avenue.

Those numbers represent a lot more than time. They represent meals shared, familiar faces, new customers, students learning in our kitchens and a community that continues to support what happens here.

So today, we’re adding a little cake to lunch. Starting at 11 a.m., enjoy a free slice of cake with the purchase of a lunch special at either Chef Ric’s location, while supplies last.

📍 384 Rideau Street
📍 180 Argyle Avenue

Thank you for helping us reach both milestones. We hope you’ll stop by and celebrate with us. 🎂
